This competitive data engineering fellowship instructed cutting edge concepts in the burgeoning data engineering field. Networked with many data professionals and finished the fellowship having built a self-designed data system with a clever method for detecting possible credit card fraud.► Built 'Proximity Alert', a system that flags credit card transactions as possible fraud based on the proximity of a user’s phone is to the transaction location.► Used Apache Kafka and KSQL to manage separate 'real-time' data streams of location and credit card transactions.► Leveraged Apache Spark Streaming to compute the proximity distances that were then saved into Apache Cassandra.► Deployed my system on the cloud using EC2 clusters on AWS.

Worked in Dr. Jeff Siewerdsen’s I-STAR (Imaging for Surgery, Therapy, and Radiology) lab at Johns Hopkins Medical Institute, Department of Biomedical Engineering. Focused on improving interventional orthopedic surgery outcomes through my work enhancing algorithms used with robot-assisted surgery.► First-authored an abstract that was accepted for an oral presentation at the 2018 SPIE Medical Imaging conference illustrating a novel CT registration method using Active Shape Models. ► Met with orthopedic surgeons to better understand their surgical needs and adapt our methods to their practices.► Made 3D surface models of the pelvis and leveraged computer vision concepts to create a statistical model of the pelvis to aid the placement of pelvic screws during surgery.► Worked on a 3D graph-cut optimization method for automatic segmentation of the spine.

Conducted research in Dr. Dara Kraitchman’s lab at Johns Hopkins Medical Institute, Department of Radiology under the auspices of Dr. Adam Sylvester. Investigated the detrimental effects that neutering at a young age can have on the developing bone structure of dogs.► Created and evaluated 3D surface models of Cone Beam CT scanned tibias using 3D visualization software.► Presented my high dimensional spatial analysis at the 19th annual JHU Medical Radiology Conference.
