About Ramsey Alwin

Over the last 20 years, I have championed positive and sustainable change in both public policy and private sector practice. Driven by social impact aspirations, I lead strategic planning efforts to improve the lives of people who have been historically marginalized or simply left behind by policies.Millions of people in America have followed the rules, been productive in their work, and raised their children to be good citizens only to age into poverty. This is an unacceptable injustice that must be addressed through policy and practice. As an economic policy strategist and advocate, I bring a holistic perspective to developing and scaling solutions that meet the needs of people today while preventing a recurrence of the same problems tomorrow. Establishing a viable economic security framework requires the input and effort of diverse public and private stakeholders. Throughout my career, I have built collaborations with federal agency officials, U.S. Congressional staff, state and local legislators, national associations, and corporate executives. I have testified before Congress, presented to industry leaders, addressed stakeholders at the United Nations Open-ended Work Group on Aging, and partnered in promoting solutions that improved the stability and sustainability of the socio-economic health and well-being of older adults. I am a servant leader who marches to the drumbeat of higher purpose and inspires others to do the same. Creating and clearly articulating the vision for bold transformational change engages and energizes stakeholders in campaigns to maximize social impact in the face of sometimes daunting challenges.I create value with these strengths:• Strategic Planning • Change Leadership• Public Policy & Advocacy• Public, Media & Legislative RelationsMy work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and CNN. I was recruited back to NCOA to modernize the organization while advancing its mission to improve the economic security and health of our nation’s most vulnerable older adults. After committing to prioritize equitable aging, aligning our strategic plan accordingly, and launching a brand refresh with a more intentional focus on our consumer-based approach, we improved the lives of nearly 15M people – placing the organization on a strong trajectory toward reaching our goal of measurably improving the health and/or economic security of 40 million older adults by 2030.
  • Aarp

I created the vision, strategy, and culture to establish AARP as a global thought leader in financial resilience and longevity. Integrating a wide range of perspectives from public, private, nonprofit, academic, and philanthropic partners, I elevated AARP programs, policy positions, and products. Leveraging the historic megatrend of a multigenerational workforce, I orchestrated AARP’s joint venture with the World Economic Forum and Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. I convened C-suite roundtables in Singapore, Paris, and New York; engaged Fortune 500 employers in capturing the $9 trillion opportunity with consumers over the age of 50; and assembled a global learning collaborative of 35 multinational companies and knowledge partners to monetize the multigenerational workforce. I managed a portfolio of $5M+ in federal grants and contracts for programs and services that addressed needs stemming from the Great Recession. I piloted the Economic Security Initiative, a comprehensive, person-centered economic assistance model that added $1,200 to each participant’s budget. I developed and deployed a financial education program, Savvy Saving Seniors™, and a decision support tool, www.EconomicCheckUp.org, that equipped older adults to manage credit and debt, prepare budgets, and plan for retirement. Additionally, I oversaw our HUD certified nationwide housing counseling initiative, including a foreclosure mitigation social enterprise.

Wider Opportunities For Women Mar 2006 - Jun 2009
I led two national initiatives, including the National Elder Economic Security Initiative, where I developed and launched a national public awareness campaign that reframed economic security and the cost of aging in America. This campaign resulted in new legislation to accurately define poverty in the U.S. plus the Census Bureau’s launch of an effort to identify and measure poverty among the elderly. As a thought leader in economic security, I delivered the keynote address at the National Aging and Law Conference, testified before the California State Senate Subcommittee on Aging and Long-term Care, and presented at a Congressional staff briefing.
