I'm terrible at writing about myself - so here's something someone else wrote about me:Me at 2004: Ramy Habeeb is the Director and Co-founder of Kotobarabia, the first Arabic language ePublishing house in the Middle East. Born in Cairo, Ramy spent his formative years in Bahrain before moving to Montreal to study business management at McGill University, graduating with a double major in English literature and Religious Studies. While at university, Ramy was a resident advisor and counselled youth on various personal and study related issues. Taking his love of literature and experience with youth, Ramy moved to Okinawa as participant in the highly competitive JET program. He spent three years teaching English and English literature to secondary school students in Okinawa. There, he coached six students to win the National Speech Prize.Upon returning to the Middle East, Ramy founded Kotobarabia (Arabic Books). Starting out in a small room with two computers and $5,000, Kotobarabia thrived and now operates three main lines of business: ePublishing, digitization and consulting. To date, Kotobarabia has digitized over 14,000 titles and employs over 50 people. Kotobarabia fulfilled Ramy’s vision of Arabic literature available internationally, and not hampered by distribution or censorship. In 2007, Ramy was awarded the Young Egyptian Publisher of the Year by the British Council and in 2009, Ramy was shortlisted for Endeavor’s Entrepreneur Fellowship, a prestigious program run by Edgar Bronfman Jr. and other highly successful entrepreneurs.Ramy has worked on various projects with companies that include: ADIBF, FBF, LBF, Google, Nielsen, British Council, Publishing Perspectives, Benetech, Barnes & Noble, Sarmady and others, as well as mentored several start-ups and ongoing businesses.
