During this PhD I worked on enhancing the immunogenicity of BCG to improve treatment of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the most deadly infectious disease. BCG is attractive as a vaccine vector because of its safety record in humans. To achieve this goal I used a variety of techniques including flowcytometry and western blot. To elucidate the role of certain pathways/genes I also used the new genetic tool CRISPR/Cas9.

My responsibilities included supporting hematologist in their communication to general practitioners by applying standardization to the communication they had with the general practitioners. This included applying the same format to all letters communicating patient information to improve readability.

During this part-time job I was responsible for the transfer of the stem cells of a donor somewhere in Europe to the department of Hematology at the Radboudumc. I had to take care that the stem cells were delivered unscathed by travelling and as fast as possible by public transport. I performed this transfer for a total of 9 times.
