I am researching the effects of diluted bitumen on marine ecosystems by looking at seaweeds as a bioindicator for marine health. Specifically, I examine the effects of diluted bitumen on the early developmental stages of four culturally important and habitat-forming seaweed species in British Columbia. In addition, I am responsible for training and mentoring multiple research assistants in field and lab work. I have a deep understanding of experimental design, statistical analysis, spatial mapping, and the publication of my research in scientific journals. I intend to defend my thesis in August 2021.

I was the Ecological Restoration Coordinator for the Lower Mainland Green Team under the non-profit Green Teams Canada for a contractual period of 3 months. Lastly, I initiated a new outreach method for a volunteer work party that increased the number of volunteers by 30 percent. Most of all, I enjoyed working outdoors and inspiring individuals to take actions in their communities by preserving biodiversity.I was invited to return to lead community events again in 2019.

I was involved in research project that was investigating the ecological impact of Scotch Broom on the diversity of pollinators in an Oak-Savannah ecosystem. This required a rigorous amount of field work which included completing field surveys which allowed us to attain detailed data on plant communities. Field work was done independently and in teams in remote areas at times. This experience also further strengthened my entomological identification skills so that I was capable of identifying Bumblebee and Fly genera and species on the fly. Lastly, I led a co-op project which involved experimental design, field work, and data analyses. The results were finalized in a concisely written technical report on flowering phenology and the relationship with temperature in Oak-Savannah habitats in South Western British Columbia.
