Visionary

Accidental Records

Answered the call to lead by shear vision alone. My vision would guide us. We needed something to happen? I visioned it to happen. I visioned through roadblocks, impasses, and all colors of tape. Saved lots of time by not having to create ridiculous projects, overthink things, or harp on details.Pro tip: Used “I’ve seen this movie before” in meetings quite a lot, whenever non-visionaries or pretenders-to-being-visionary brought up new ideas. Because I was the visionary, and they weren’t. And because I may have actually seen a movie whose plot, reasonable people might agree, could apply to the situation. And we could talk about our favorite scenes from that movie, if they had seen it and could remember it. Or I might have thought of a film, mostly irrelevant to the topic at hand - but certainly more interesting - though not so off-topic that it didn’t suggest, dare I say, a whiff of genius - something worth going off on a huge tangent for even if it torpedoed the original meeting agenda.Thrived in ambiguity because it sounded cool, required no accountability, and it led to my creation of amazing and awesome nth-order ambiguities.Amassed huge wealth and authored scores of books and videos on the topic, and was a fixture on cable business news networks. Not that I needed the money.Gave back to the community by launching the Gifted Young Visionaries Program for gifted young visionaries and their gifted parents. Trophies were flying everywhere.

Thought Leader

Accidental Records

Thought of things before anyone else did. Spoke about the future before audiences, whose feedback typically amounted to “Well, that sounds plausible. Can you come speak at this other conference in April?”Some thought-leading thoughts: “I thought I told you. I thought you knew. I thought he’d never leave. I thought it was free. I thought we had a deal. I thought you were my friend.”Pioneered thinking “outside the box.” Incrementally took it to the next level by thinking “outside outside the box.” In other words, inside the original box. Or was it? Could have been a different box. Led others astray. Was pretty dope.Gold medalist at Jackson Hole Concours de Thought, coming up with several profoundly thought-leading thoughts like, “I think I’ll have the Ringo” (an omelet with onion rings). Honorable Mention at Davos Annual Think-Off, and the obligatory thought-leading TED talk.Started the whole revolution of answering questions beginning with the word “Sue,..” What’s 1 + 1? “Sue, when we add 1 + 1 we get 2.” Sounds more thoughtful, right? Became all the rage in Silicon Valley before metastasizing over the rest of the nation.Held ground-breaking workshops with other thought leaders where none of us said a word. We just thought to ourselves, never even making eye contact. Well, the results spoke for themselves.Other times we thought out loud - sort of a thought “improv”, bristling with ideas, but creating mass confusion until we came up with the “hold that thought” workaround.“Mike drop”, “a hard get”, “the ask”, “This is not my first rodeo”, “circle back”, “add color”, “Let’s not overthink this”, “I’m glad you asked that question”, and “How should we think about…” were some of my ideas from these sessions. These early sessions and the lost basement tapes have given executives and climbers everywhere the plethora of thought-provoking, insightful terms that we all know today - for earnings calls, board meetings, staff meetings, and the like.

Value-Add Executive

Accidental Records

In this high-impact leadership position, I added value everywhere - in meetings, conference calls, hotel lobbies, airport lounges, lavatories, and parking garages. Added value end-to-end, beginning-to-end, or surgically at some intermediate points along the way. Or just added value at random points to make the value chain longer, thus more valuable. My mere presence added value, sometimes to the point of distraction. People were saying, “It’s a good thing you were there to add value because there was not enough value being added before you arrived.”Would add value by throwing in a few "I will tell you ....."s or "At the end of the day...."s ahead of what I was about to say. These would usually settle matters. If not, I would mine value.Took it to the next level, and was industry-disruptive by adding value even when totally unnecessary, thus creating the game-changing concepts of “surplus value”, “banked value”, “value pool”, and “strategic value reserves.”

Influencer

Accidental Records

Phoenix, Paris, And Other Cities Mostly Beginning With The Letter P

Hung around lobbies of high-end hotels, outraged, expecting to be comped for lodging and meals. In these lobbies I met lots of people, mostly other influencers. Did video reviews of products like hair-removal devices, hair restoration devices, gardening tools, high-end sports cars, corporate jets and super-yachts. People found my reviews useful - this one guy saying I had influenced his decision on whether to go Gulfstream or Learjet. In my head-to-head comparison, I had pointed out that the Gulfstream was bigger, had more leg room and generally just looked more impressive on the ground. But note tires are expensive - so plan for them in the budget. Said he found this insightful, and gave me a “like”, which is the highest you can get.As for super-yachts, as I pointed out on my YouTube video, nothing says you've arrived quite like slowly pulling into Monte Carlo in a huge boat, one way bigger than anyone else’s. And a bigger boat means that the harbor would have to make special accommodations, like demolishing bridges and enlarging the harbor - which, your publicist makes known, is a trifle for a person in your position.People on shore, like A-list wanna-bes, are left wondering whose boat it is, who’s actually on it, and what they are eating. They can’t see anyone, even with binoculars – adding to the mystique.Your super-yacht should be practical. It should have more bathrooms than bedrooms, a chef’s kitchen with gas burners and white cabinets, at least one rolling barn door, and ample storage. A home theater for something to do. A pool for a place to swim. Pro tip: Be sure to opt for the over-the-ocean retractible diving board before construction begins. It’s prohibitively expensive to retrofit, and you will get sick to your stomach if you wanted it but forgot to spec it in.

Reach-Out Associate And Partner

Accidental Records

Leveraged my versatile reaching-out skills to start conversations, pre-plan things, discuss future discussions, or to grab objects like plates and cups to bring to the table.Reached out to people with whom I had spoken just minutes before. Reached out to people in advance to let them know I needed to speak with them. Reached out to complete strangers as well, to see what they were up to.Skill in making people appreciate being reached-out to was my hallmark, my signature move. Even if my reaching out seemed pointless, other than the fact I had nothing else to do on my drive home from the airport. Out of an abundance of caution, I would reach out to the person again when I arrived home, leveraging the fact that I was no longer distracted by driving.Leaving nothing to chance, reached out to people I was constantly around. Went above and beyond when I didn’t have to reach out that one time, but I did anyway. As one must.

Tribal Knowledge Czar And Curator

Accidental Records

Obtained knowledge from various tribes. Ignored all non-tribal knowledge because it wasn't tribal. Though forbidden knowledge was accepted on a case-by-case basis.Guarded my own tribal knowledge from other tribal knowledge warlords and tribal knowledge usurpers by building walls or silos, or using advanced encryption. Lit fire to whole villages when necessary, in the name of tribal knowledge security, liberty, freedom, and the greater good.Started new tribes, surfaced new knowledge (knowledge doesn’t just happen on its own), deep dived or whatever, and distributed knowledge selectively to these tribes. Stoked tribal rivalries by playing one tribe off another. Was vericool.Cards on the table, I'm not gonna lie. There were heated moments. But the tribes were mostly pleased and went about their business, armed with that exclusive tribal knowledge.

Staying In One'S Lane Specialist

Accidental Records

Did nothing but stay in my lane. I moved forward, backward, or not at all. The main thing was that I stayed in my lane. People would say, “Fuck me if I know what he’s doing out there, but you gotta hand it to him. He sure knows how to stay in his lane.” Others would say, “Where the hell is he?... Oh, in his lane where he’s supposed to be. I should have known to look there in the first place.”
