Handpicked as the first hardware engineer to join a new business unit established to meet needs of government customers. Conceptualized, architected and designed the hardware of a Power PC based, conduction-cooled, modular, ruggedized router to be offered in both commercial and military versions. Led a team of 8 engineers creating system components including the main network processing engine, network interface adapters and power supply module. Designed embedded processor complex circuitry, module interconnect interfaces, programmable logic, and power distribution infrastructure. Performed schematic entry, signal integrity analysis, PCB layout, and documentation of technical specifications.

Designed hardware for multiple projects, all of which entailed schematic entry, signal integrity analysis, Verilog coding, component evaluation and selection, test and debug, and generation of technical documentation. Specific projects included: • Designed route processor baseboard utilizing Broadcom BCM1250 MIPS processor complex in support of the Network Service Engine 200 for 7300 Router. • Designed BCM1250 MIPS processor complex and associated I/O interfaces, configuration CPLD, and system power control logic for the SIP10G Line Card for 7600 Router.• Defined the initial generic specifications and requirements for Shared Port Adapters (standardized modules that provided a variety of network interfaces) eliminating duplicate efforts to provide the same functionality on a per product basis and driving greater economies of scale.

Designed a custom, 50-channel, 24-bit analog to digital acquisition system used in a device to detect and locate Coronary Artery Disease. Utilized high-density FPGA logic, a custom designed PCI interface adapter, low noise power systems and high performance analog filters and amplifiers. Responsible for specifying parts, bills of materials, schematic and board layouts, technical documentation, debugging/problem resolution and verification testing.
