I joined the company during its early days when it was known as WiFast. For over a year, I was one of two dedicated backend/ops engineers, during which time we grew the company from just 100 installed locations and two sales people to over 1400 locations and a 60+ person sales team in Scottsdale, AZ. Some highlights:• Responsible for scaling MongoDB from single EC2 instance to sharded cluster from versions 2.4 to 3.0+• Created and maintained small Cassandra cluster on EC2 for storing terabytes of presence data• Integrated captive portal service with Meraki and AirTight wireless access points• Extracted captive portal from monolithic codebase (Django), converting to independent services (Flask) • Led design and implementation of account management system backend (Postgres/RDS, Flask, Salesforce) achieving 100% test coverage• Designed architecture for real-time data pipeline processing millions of presence events per hour, scalable to billions (plugin-architecture API for ingestion, Kinesis for streaming, redundant consumers for resiliency)• Wrote simple MapReduce jobs to run on EMR for batch product performance data (MrJob)• Designed and implemented prototype for near-real-time MongoDB event system using Kafka and Storm• Wrote position reqs and interviewed candidatesEnvironment: Python, Flask, Django, MongoDB, Postgres, Cassandra, Kinesis, Docker, CoreOS

While at eBay, I worked on a small team whose goal was to revamp the dated eBay.com homepage. In two weeks, we developed a working prototype of the eBay Feed, a new Pinterest inspired personalized browsing experience. The result of our work went live to over 100 million users and replaced the eBay.com homepage. Along with Jack Abraham, I presented the Feed prototype directly to eBay CEO John Donahoe. This was a high profile project that was covered in Business Insider (see the link below).I also worked with the data science team at eBay Local, primarily focused on providing data analysis and intelligence services for eBay's new buy-online-pickup-in-store (BOPIS) project. I developed RESTful APIs, search infrastructure, and worked with our classification systems, all of which supported both eBay Now! and BOPIS (buy online, pickup in store).

Leads collects transactions from potential fencing sites in all fifty states and makes this data available to police departments for solving property crimes. Each of these transactions is available to the search engine within two minutes of its receipt per contract specification. I redesigned Leads' search system and improved response times by an order of magnitude (~1800ms to < 100ms for fuzzy searches).

I worked as lead developer at this small consulting firm. I worked with a wide array of languages and software according to our clients' needs. I led and contributed to quite a few different projects while employed here and can provide direct client references for interested parties.
