Bilyara Winery

I am responsible for the for the maintenance and improvement of all quality systems at the winery. The includes management of the laboratory and weighbridge, overseeing the quality control systems, working with the rest of the site management team to drive process improvement.

Barossa Valley

From November 2009, production of most of the white portfolio of Rosemount Estate, and a large part of the red commericial portfolio of Rosemount Estate was moved to Bilyara in tbe Barossa Valley. During the period 2009 til 2014 I was responsible for the production of these wines.In 2015, due to the closure of the Ryecroft winery, production of all of Rosemount Estate's portfolio moved to Bilyara. I now have responsibility for the production of most of the Rosemount Estate range of wines. This is a very broad range, spanning from high volume, commerical wines, such as the "Blends" range of wines, to small volume iconic wines such as Balmoral Syrah and GSM. From late 2016, I have moved across to a management role responsible for the laboratory and the quality systems at Bilyara winery. My role within winemaking is much more a consultative one now, working with other winemakers to ensure Rosemount wines keep consistent quality and style.

Bilyara Winery

An eight month secondment. Managing the day-to-day activities of the Bilyara winery laboratory. The laboratory has nine staff, which increases to fourteen during the vintage period. Responsibilities include recruitment of vintage staff, maintenance and improvement of health and safety, performance management, rostering, facilitating staff training and capability improvement, also implementation of improvements in the laboratory.Personally, this secondment is a fantastic opportunity for me to gain some experience in management, but also to gain a better understanding of the operation of the laboratory and the interactions between the laboratory and the rest of the winery and pacakging centre. I believe my experience as a winemaker provides value to the laboratory technicians by increasing their understanding of the winemaking process and the importance of analysis in that process.

Bilyara (Wolf Blass) Winery - Nuriootpa

I was responsible for the final blending, finishing and bottling of all Rosemount Estate commercial wines. I was also responsible for the bottling of all Rosemount Estate premium wines. During this period I worked vintage at Penfolds as a red winemaker, before resuming my Rosemount Estate role outside of vintage.In 2007, I was given my first reserve wine to look after, Rosemount Estate Show Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. After much moving around, this was the first wine that I was responsible for from harvest to bottling.

Rosemount Estate - Denman

As Bottling Winemaker I was responsible for the final finishing, filtering and delivery of wine to the packaging centre. I worked closely with the packaging centre to improve the quality retention during the bottling process through the elimination of possible dilution and the reduction of dissolved oxygen pick-up. I found this role to be challenging but ultimately rewarding.

Rosemount Estate - Denman

I completed 12 months as an assistant winemaker with Rosemount Estate learning all winemaking roles within the site, particularly the role of Bottling Winemaker.

Penfolds - Barossa Valley

I began this role wokring in the white fermentation area as a vintage winemaker, before moving to the red winemaking team, and being responsible for the blending and bottling of several commerical wines.

Lindemans Karadoc - Sunraysia

A continuation of my Graduate Program, learning the management of commercial wines. I spent time with all winemakers at the site during this period, learning bottling, blending and wine maintenance of commerical wines.

Rouge Homme - Coonawarra

The start of my Graduate Program with Southcorp wines. I started working in the cellar learning the ropes, before moving into a vintage winemaker role.
