Weightless Cargo Music Sep 2008 - Present
    Newport, Oregon
Having returned to my Oregon roots in June of 2012, I can see the roiling Pacific from my living room window, where I toil daily at these computer keys attempting to re-arrange the mother tongue in some new, entertaining, and hopefully enlightening way. All I can say is that makin' stuff up in my PJs beats laying bricks. I'm blessed to live a creative life and trust that, as I continue to follow my inspiration and develop my craft, I will always live an abundant and fulfilling life.
  • Writer Zone Music, Llc
    Co-Founder/Co-Owner/Songwriter/Music Publisher
Writer Zone Music, Llc Sep 2003 - Sep 2008
I founded Writer Zone Music with Parker MacDonell of Columbus, Ohio and Nashville independent publisher Steve Bloch in Sept. '03. Songwriter Jon Robbin came on board shortly thereafter. Having recently written #1 songs, Robbin and I provided mentorship for several developing writers, including Kurt Hagen, Eric Dove and Gregg Caroway. We signed Trent Summar in 2004. I produced his "Horseshoes and Hand Grenades" album, which we leased to Palo Duro Records. Gary Allan, Billy Currington and Jack Ingram all covered songs from the Summar project. Ingram's version of "Love You" became a Top-10 Country single. Thom Schuyler came on board as a consultant in 2005 and became a partner in 2006. I spent most of 2007 developing burgeoning country songstress Hailey Stout (Colgate Country Showdown finalist, 2007). Stout signed with Dreamcatcher Management. All exclusive songwriting, co-publishing and investment contracts ran out, and we closed the Writer Zone offices in Sept. of 2008. The partners still own the catalog, which is now being pitched by Matt Lindsey and Scott Paschall.

As a member of the Nashville Film Festival Board, I founded and chaired the Festival Committee for two seasons, overseeing all of the nuts and bolts of the event. • Songwriters And Artist For The Earth (S.A.F.E.)
    Co-Founder/Producer/A&R Co-Ordinator
Songwriters And Artist For The Earth (S.A.F.E.) Jan 1989 - Aug 1996
A 5013C not-for-profit Corporation, S.A.F.E. was founded by Charlie Pullman, Kate Cunningham and myself to produce a series of compilation CDs for the family market to benefit worthy environmental and children's causes. "Put On Your Green Shoes," (Sony/Kids, 1993) featured Cyndi Lauper, Richie Havens, Willie Nelson, Olivia Newton-John, Kenny Loggins, Indigo Girls and Dr. John. I did A&R Co-ordination on the project and produced 7 of the album's 14 tracks. The project benefited Earth Island Institute and Save The Children. My production of Richie Havens singing the Bishop/Pullman/Cunningham solar power anthem, "Light of the Sun," was selected as the official Viacom Earth Day theme and broadcast for a number of years on public service announcements on all Viacom channels, including MTV and VH1. That track and my "Wild Wild Party in the Loquat Tree," recorded by the Indigo Girls, have both been licensed for other benefit compilations including Ben and Jerry's "One World/One Heart" and "Mary Had a Little Amp." S.A.F.E.'s "Friends For Life" compilation (Warner/Lightyear, 1996), to benefit Save The Children, featured Boyz II Men, Al Jarreau, Los Lobos, Wynonna, Ziggy Marley, Tuck & Patti, The Monkees and Richard Marx. I co-wrote and produced the Lorrie Morgan side, "Best Friend For Life."

  • Elektra, A&M, Infinity/Mca, Pasha/Cbs
    Recording Artist, Music Producer, Songwriter
    Elektra, A&M, Infinity/Mca, Pasha/Cbs 1969 - 1988
Jac Holzman signed Roxy to Elektra in 1969. One album, 1970, toured with Poco, War, Jefferson Airplane, Credence Clearwater, Mad Dogs and Englishmen. Did concerts, recorded single with Rita Coolidge and Graham Nash. Two songs on the soundtrack of cult film "Vanishing Point" as duo, Segarini and Bishop. Re-signed to Elektra in 1971 as The Wackers. Produced by legendary Gary Usher, Creem Magazine hailed Wackers as "the greatest rock 'n' roll band in North America." 3rd LP yielded Top-40 single, "Day and Night." After recording the double album, "Wack and Roll," new Elektra label chief David Geffen dropped Wackers. Solo career based out of Montreal - two Canadian Top-5 singles in 1975, produced 7 French Canadian hits. Back in L.A., signed to A&M. First single, "Daybreak" (written by David Pomeranz and Spencer Proffer) was covered by Bette Midler. My 2nd, Mann and Weill's "Here You Come Again," became Dolly Parton's first big crossover hit. Ron Alexenberg signed duo Bishop and Gwinn to Infinity/MCA. By the time our Fred Mollin/Matthew McCauley produced album was finished, so was the label. Infinity only lasted one year. Final major label album, 1983's "Dangerous Infatuation" produced by Spencer Proffer for Pasha/CBS. The big thrill - doing a video for "Two Hearts on the Loose" with director David Hemmings (to view, go to YouTube, search Randy Bishop - talk about '80s hair). Released within weeks of label mates Quiet Riot's "Metal Health." QR got better reception at radio than Randy Bishop and the Underdogs. Segued into an A&R/staff production position at Pasha. My songs were recorded by Heart, Cheap Trick, Beach Boys, Vanilla Fudge, Peter Noone. I produced Kick Axe, Prophet and Rhythm Corps, received Grammy Nomination for "So Close To the Fire" from the soundtrack to Paramount's "Saturday Night Fever" sequel, "Staying Alive," starring John Travolta, written and directed by Sylvester Stallone (2 chapters in my book about this ordeal).
