I have worked in Early Care and Education (ECE) for 40+ years! In that time, I’ve been a preschool teacher, child care center director, family support center director, and university professor. Since moving to California from Chicago in 2007, my work has focused on designing and implementing large-scale ECE workforce development initiatives, engaging diverse stakeholder groups, and advancing systemic efforts to strengthen the delivery and impact of child care and early learning. Since 2015, I’ve been a leader and pioneer in utilizing apprenticeship as a model of ECE professional development. As Founder and Executive Director of Early Care & Education Pathways to Success (ECEPTS) since 2019, I have been an outspoken and influential advocate for sustainable public funding for the ECE industry, better compensation for ECE workers, and increasing support for ECE as an essential industry deserving of priority status in workforce development initiatives and funding. I am currently serving a second term on the U.S. Secretary of Labor’s Advisory Committee on Apprenticeships. I have an Ed.M. in Instructional Leadership from the University of Illinois-Chicago, and a Ph.D. in Human Development and Social Policy from Northwestern University.
