I have been a writer since the 20th century. In the 1980s, I was the editor of The Electric Company Magazine published by Children’s Television Workshop. In the early 90s, my partner, Jackie Kaufman, and I created, published, wrote and edited, P3, an eco-journal that empowered young people to act on behalf of their home planet. P3 was the recipient of a Giraffe Award and was promoted by Lauren Hutton, among others. My young adult novel, Life as I Knew It, was released by Simon & Schuster in 2006, named one of the Books for the Teen Age 2007 by the New York Public Library and was listed as a resource for grieving teens by the Mourning Star Foundation in California. For the past 12 years, my radio show Postcards from Abroad, has been broadcast to an audience of 150,000 on KPR, the University of Kansas’s NPR affiliate. The essays and articles I wrote with the aforementioned partner appeared in The New York Times Book Review, Punch and Spy magazines. My TV show, Windy Acres, appeared on Vermont Public Television and won a New England Emmy. I also speak a little Mongolian though not as well as I used to.
