A resource for parents, caregivers, educators and medical professionals, Kid Cope Specialists provides developmentally-appropriate preparation and education, as well as advocacy and other supportive services to help guide children and families through life’s unexpected and sometimes frightening moments. Private Sessions:Types of support include but are not limited to:-Therapeutic play, medical play-Developmentally-appropriate education-Preparation for medical procedures and other upcoming life events-Self-expression activities-Accompaniment to a medical/dental appointment (upon request; ultimate goal will be for specialist to utilize parent training to ensure parent is able to support child’s ability to cope)-Advocacy support on behalf of child and family-School support/education for new diagnoses/allergies-School re-entry/reintegration support following a prolonged or scattered absence*Parent Trainings:Parent trainings can occur over the phone, via video chat, or in person sessions. Sessions will include a variety of services tailored to fit the needs of each individual parent and family. Trainings will often include education and encouragement of advocacy support for your child. In terms of medical experiences, support can include advocating for comfort positionings during shots or blood draws.Comfort positions give parents the opportunity to provide safety and security for their children through hugging or holding, helping them to feel comforted by mom or dad through a challenging and painful moment. Parent trainings will often include role play and practice sessions with the specialist, demonstrating practical solutions for challenging moments at upcoming doctors or dentists appointments.Workshops:Sessions designed for parents and children provide education and preparation for dealing with medical experiences, opportunities to practice role play, and improve coping abilities.www.KidCopeSpecialists.com
