Leading commissioning activities and research for the advanced reactors.

As a Project Manager in Risk and Safety Management group at EPRI, I am leading groups of experts developing new methods in area of Fire PRA (more specifically High Energy Arcing Faults), External Hazards (External Flooding PRA) and application of the Risk-Informed In-Service Inspection.

Position offered by Vogtle, GA Startup Director for 2 AP1000 Passive System plants to join the Startup group for the customer Southern Nuclear Company (who is now 100% accountable for construction completion of the 2 plants) due to successful planning, implementation, and execution of the startup testing at plants in Haiyang and Sanmen, China. Charged with bridging the gap between Engineering group (in the U.S.) and Startup team (in China) communications and improve efficiency in resolving problems.Accountable for developing strategy to implement lessons learned, launch a structured approach for troubleshooting, provide engineering analysis and technical support related to Passive Safety Technology, as well as optimizing First-of-A- Kind (FOAK) testing scope, and delivering training on the test uncertainty methods.♦ Directed preparation and execution of 6 FOAK Passive Systems tests within 5 months. - Sent to China 6/2016 as Lead Engineer with 4 other Engineers due to knowledge in Passive Systems and site experience at Vogtle. - Improved communications and cooperation with Engineering and Startup group, as well as with plant owners, and on-site Chinese Engineers.♦ Currently on track to save $10M to $15M out of ~$80M in FOAK testing costs for customer. - Providing acceptable proof of tests conducted at the China facilities to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as justification for reducing the number of required FOAKs. - Conducted cost analysis and authored White Papers; created 1st presentation to the NRC.♦ Launching process to implement lessons learned from China Sanmen site startup and applied to Haiyang site and to be used for all startup testing in the future.- Structured approach resulted in improved efficiency of test executions, as well as saving man-hours and prevention of potential errors during critical tests.

In charge of leading 4 Design Engineers for a portion of the Mechanical Group for the construction of Mechanical Modules for the AP1000 Nuclear Power Plant in GA. Ensured Modules were built to design specifications and resolved engineering problems encountered during on-site construction. Reviewed all design changes ensuring sound technical justification was provided and identified all impacted areas. Served as Fluid System Expert at site.♦ Achieved average engineering response index of less than 1 for resolving construction-related problems ahead of deadlines.♦ Reduced by ~ 20% the number of problems that required engineering analysis and accelerated the resolution response time. - Relocated team from engineering offices to the building where mechanical modules were constructed.♦ Was requested to lead pre-operational testing phase of the AP1000 Safety Systems (Passive Core Cooling System) at Sanmen site in China in 5/2016. Spent 4 weeks resolving CCS Heat Exchanger issues. - Proved passive concepts were valid and met operational requirements; tests completed in 5 months. - Assumed lead role in troubleshooting process; identified weaknesses in supplier’s methodology for Heat Exchanger performance mathematical model and supplier fixed the problem.♦ Developed a structured approach for engineering readiness in collaboration with Engineering Manager. - Led offshore team in engineering deliverables. - Delivered test data processing, uncertainties and acceptance criteria calculations ahead of schedule.♦ Successfully defended engineering analysis to the China Nuclear Regulator.♦ Selected to go to Haiyang site from 6/2017 to 9/2017 and lead same tests as at Sanmen - Shortened test schedule by applying lessons learned from Sanmen site tests.♦ Trained 7 Design Engineers in piping analysis resulting in larger pool of staff for resolving piping problems.

Accountable for designing safety systems from 2008 to 2014 encompassing the job titles below. These 6 years focused on mathematical and physical modeling of the phenomena related to the passive safety systems. ♦ Accepted offer to work at Vogtle construction site for the build of the AP1000 nuclear power plant.♦ Successfully transitioned from theoretical engineer to hands-on practical problem solver on-site.♦ Learned site engineering processes and tools to support power plant construction, including PIPE STRESS computer code used for piping systems design.Accepted a role in the field and provided high-level of site design support to the Engineering group.♦ Addressed construction non-conformance and design changes for Units 3 and 4.♦ Gained acceptance as member of construction team able to provide technical advice about construction plans and solutions to the problems.♦ Created engineering templates to resolve the most recurrent issues; collaborated with 2 mechanical engineers. - Saved engineering time spent on analyses a templates were used by entire group.♦ Developed hydrostatic plans and strategies with the construction managers for testing; validated each approach with FATHOM software, and became point-of-contact for all further tests at Vogtle site.

Accountable for supporting the development of the Westinghouse Small Modular Reactor (SMR) design as a new member of the Research and Technology group. Assigned to a critical project related to the AP1000 Passive Safety Systems at the request of the Nuclear Systems Group to lead development of a FOAK methodology for the extended long-term core cooling for the Station Blackout transient. Performed scaling analysis and co-designed the testing facility.♦ Received George Westinghouse Signature Award 7/2013 for taking a leadership role in a project; 1 of 100 employees out of 15K so recognized. - Led analysis resulting in an increase of safety system performance, approved by the ACRS and US/UK/China regulators.

- Conducted Level I PRA analysis; performed risk assessment of the ventilation system for main control room.- Performed various safety analysis using LOFTRAN computer code.- Performed shielding calculations using MicroShield computer code.
