Originally founded as a commercial arts business by a group of artists and designers, SOA has always been equal parts business and community development. From 1994-1998 SOA provided art services including graphic design, airbrushing, portraits and mural painting. Everything we did as a business, we also taught to young people in the neighborhood, in-schools and community centers. In 2002 SOA was incorporated as a nonprofit corporation and continued serving young people. In addition to arts education, the organization began serving as fiscal sponsor for individual artists and unincorporated groups. The organization is now focused on embracing the name Support Oakland Artists. We continue to support individual artists and organizations, host events that bring information to the people, provide an online forum for easy access to resources and encourage the arts community to engage in the civic process.

ULI SF, in partnership with the City and County of San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) launched its 2022-2023 Bay Area Developers of Color Cohort Program in October and held its first program in November. This opportunity is designed to provide participants with a deep knowledge and understanding of the affordable housing development process within the City and County of San Francisco. Guided by ULI SF and SF MOHCD, participants will exit the program equipped with the tools and skills to access development opportunities in San Francisco. The program is funded by a Partnership for the Bay’s Future Policy Grant from the San Francisco Foundation to accelerate work focused on advancing equitable housing policies and supporting developers of color in San Francisco.
