CurrentOver the past year, I’ve had over 100 conversations with school counselors across the country, listening to their challenges and uncovering the recurring theme: they are overwhelmed. From managing 500+ students per counselor in public schools to overseeing hundreds of applications in elite private institutions, counselors are stretched thin, leaving little time for the personalized guidance students desperately need. This inspired the creation of Addie, a human-centered AI platform designed to transform college counseling. Addie isn’t just a tool—she’s a partner. By connecting with students through empathetic conversations, Addie captures their unique stories—their achievements, goals, and strengths—and guides them through key steps like crafting essays and meeting application deadlines. Counselors are freed from administrative overload and can focus on what truly matters: mentoring their students. What makes Addie so powerful is her ability to unlock the goldmine of unstructured data schools already have— like teacher comments. Many students have more than 40K words written about them - the length of a novel. This hidden wealth of information allows Addie to form deep, personalized connections with students while giving counselors back their most valuable resource: time. Our mission is bold yet simple: to ensure every student, regardless of background, has access to high-quality, personalized guidance. Addie has the potential to expand into career counseling, mental health support, and beyond—anywhere counselors need a partner to extend their impact. In just a couple of months, we’re launching our pilot program in collaboration with incredible partners like Lakeside School, known for its Ivy+ placements, and Aspire Charter Network, which prioritizes getting low-income students into top colleges. These design partners are not just helping us validate Addie’s approach; they are shaping a future where every student has the guidance they need to thrive.
