Designed and managed the development of a mobile-native software application for gathering data from the field, tracking progress, and reporting. Eben Russel had the vision, I was the architect with support of the Sol Rebel Team, and TrackVia was the software partner we selected to provide the platform and build the app, to our specs and under our guidance. It turned out great; project tracking and visibility was greatly improved and the field crews love it.

Led the Northern California Operations team to oversee planning and construction of dozens of PV projects simultaneously - totaling over 30MW and $50M annually. Responsible for overall profit and loss for the region. Responsible for reviewing and approving all client and subcontractor contracts, including all business terms, scope, schedule and price. Worked collaboratively with the executive management, sales and project development teams to develop regional goals, strategy, execution plan and standards to improve growth and profitability. Took over the department when it was losing money and within a year and a half we were exceeding quarterly profit goals, grew revenue 30%, doubled the size of the operations team and improved safety and quality.

Act as Professional Electrical Engineer for projects throughout California. Lead technical contact with clients and project stakeholders. Assess and mitigate project risks in advance of detailed engineering efforts. Manage and coordinate front-end site discovery, including survey, geotechnical and electrical evaluation. Manage and oversee project engineering and design by subcontracted design consultants. Develop and maintain relationships with external engineering firms. Manage quality control and engineering administration for projects in construction. Work to improve internal processes and standards.

I am charged with increasing project velocity and quality, while reducing total installed cost, through value engineering, standardization, and optimization of technology. I take on special projects to develop solutions to complex technical problems that cut across multiple engineering disciplines. I work with vendors to select new products and refine features to meet our applications. I also establish design standards, by integrating lessons learned, building internal consensus and then communicating the best practices to the design team. Much of my energy is focused on understanding LCOE impact of technology solutions. I develop and maintain the Borrego CAD systems, standards and drawing templates.

I was the lead design engineer on large scale photovoltaic projects. I designed over 25 MW worth of solar energy projects. I was responsible for coordinating a team of engineers including, electrical, structural and civil disciplines. I oversaw drafting and plan set development thru permitting and construction administration to as-built documentation for hand-off to our O&M team. The role required a strong grasp of everything involved in the design of the project, from civil and environmental permitting, structural and mechanical integration to electrical and data systems design. My primary goals were to design the highest quality system, which met the energy production and financial goals for the project, and to keep the project on schedule.

I was responsible for Sales and System Design of Residential and small Commercial solar projects - both photovoltaic and solar thermal. I developed new financial modeling tools for new and existing incentives including the Oregon Pilot Feed-in Tariff program. I wrote and negotiated client contracts and wrote winning proposals for several of the Portland area "Solarize" programs. I worked to help improve marketing materials, and signed one of the largest projects ever built by Mr. Sun. I also designed and built several off-grid and grid-tied with battery back-up systems.

Lead electrical designer and engineering project manager, responsible for the design of over 7 MW worth of commercial Photovoltaic systems, including a 4MW system which was, at the time, the largest rooftop solar project in the country. I was promoted to Electrical Engineering Manager, shortly before I decided to leave the company.

I managed the installation of more than 80 solar projects at schools and other public or educational facilities. I was responsible for O&M and data continuity for more than 100 projects. While at BEF, we developed Solar 4R Schools from a simple grant program, to a nationally recognized renewable energy education program, offering complete project management services and turn-key projects to a national client base of utility, non-profit and corporate sponsors. In 2009 the Solar 4R Schools program was awarded “Best K-12 RE Education Program” by IREC, and “Best Education and Outreach Program” at Green Power Marketing Conference. I played a key role in developing the website for the program and the integration of live data from solar data acquisition systems into the site, which was also the platform for a custom interface for the touch screen 'kiosks', which I designed, that we often installed at the schools. I also worked on developing educational materials, conducted training workshops, and provided consulting services to clients with high visibility projects, including feasibility studies and RFP development for a solar project on Century Link Field Expo Center in Seattle (part of Seattle Seahawks stadium complex). I advised AGAINST using Solyndra.
