About Randy Deary
I want to emphasize that my work history is exclusively hands-on designing, inventing, prototyping and following through with product launch into manufacturing. I have several patents to my name and have developed many proprietary processes and designs. The products I have designed are in use in a variety of demanding marketplaces. They are found in operating rooms, bio-science labs, automobiles, telecommunication and industrial systems, as well as Home land security and military applications for airborne, ground and naval use. My designs typically are combinations of mechanics, optics, sensors, electronics, motion drive systems and control. Products are designed around and utilize various company unique technologies. I am well versed in machine shop capabilities, rapid prototype, soft tool molding, casting, adhesives, materials, sheet metal, plastics, fasteners, coatings and precision mechanics. I am very familiar with optics for imaging and sensing in visible, multispectral and IR wavelengths using both discrete optical elements and fiber optics. I am a seasoned professional who is comfortable either, improving and brainstorming existing designs or starting with “clean sheets of paper”, reading a specification and evolving a design from it is familiar territory. I have worked with and managed product development and manufacturing teams both domestic and internationally both as a standalone resource or contributing in a multidiscipline environment. I have worked as an independent design consultant but predominately worked in start-up or small companies. I am a self-starter and a quick study on what needs to be accomplished and more importantly can visualize practical approaches to do it. This demonstrates my abilities to understand varying unique technologies and specific requirements to createsuccessful designs. This background, in combination, frequently leads to novel and unique workable design solutions.

Senior Mechanical Engineer
My role as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is designing, prototyping and the introduction to production of complex, multi element high performance IR and visible lens systems. Designs involve active movements and alignments to micron level precision over wide environmental excursions. Systems integrate mechanics, optics, electronics, motion systems and software. Designs are required to meet specific internal or customer specifications. I am a technical interface with customers from specification drafts to production release. Typically the optical systems are intended for a wide variety of military, security, industrial, medical and scientific applications.
Sr Mechanical Engineer
My role as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is designing, prototyping and the introduction to production of complex, multi element high performance IR and visible lens systems. Designs involve active movements and alignments to micron level precision over wide environmental excursions. Systems integrate mechanics, optics, electronics, motion systems and software. Designs are required to meet specific internal or customer specifications. I am a technical interface with customers from specification drafts to production release. Typically the optical systems are intended for a wide variety of military, security, industrial, medical and scientific applications.
Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer
My role as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is designing, prototyping and leading pilot production of complex, multi element high performance IR lens systems for military, automotive and homeland security. Designs involve active movements and alignments to micron level precision over wide environmental excursions. Systems integrate mechanics, optics, electronics, motion systems and software. Designs are required to meet specific military, auto, and customer specifications. I am technical interface with customers for all projects from specification drafts to production release.
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
I designed, developed and prototyped the hardware, packaging and manufacturing tools/fixturing/techniques to produce an IR to visible wavelength converter using the companies’ proprietary MEMS technology and CMOS image processing. Product was intended as the “imaging core” device enabling, game changing, low cost IR imaging. I designed tooled and prototyped an OEM hand held IR thermographic camera using this “core”. These products utilized electronics, optics, mechanics, molded plastic and LC displays. Both were successful performers but, did not meet cost objectives to be viable and the company lost funding to pursue further improving the technology.
Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer
As Senior Mechanical Design Engineer I designed, prototyped and lead pilot manufacturing of the companies Bio-lab imaging instrument portfolio used in cancer and drug research utilizing the companies’ proprietary Liquid Crystal technologies. This included multi spectral and polarized imaging systems for subcutaneous fluorescence, tissue dye analysis, natural untouched cell structure imaging, industrial process monitoring and laser grooming. I was also on the Engineering team prototyping and developing processes for the companies OEM large volume Liquid Crystal telecom devices used in the fiber network. I supported CE markings, FDA filings and GMP requirements where applicable. `
Independent Design Consultant
I provided Mechanical and Opto-Mechanical design services. I designed and prototyped minimally invasive endoscopic optical instruments and Xenon based illumination systems used in surgical and diagnostic settings. I also developed processes to facilitate manufacturing and testing of optical and illumination systems. Some client companies were: Genzyme, Intuitive Surgical, Integra Surgical (Luxtec), Endius, Zimmer, Scholly, Sophamor-Danek, Mass General Hospital, The Cleveland Clinic. Corcadence and Fiber Imaging Technologies.
Senior Opto Mechanical Engineer
My role was the Senior Design Engineer of the OEM medical group applying companies’ technology developed around fiber optics. I designed, prototyped and led pilot production of small diameter imaging systems for minimally invasive orthopedic and spinal surgery. I also did likewise for packaged and sterilized disposable lens/ prism based endoscope product line. I served as main technical customer contact and also supported FDA filings and GMP, FMEA requirements.
Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer
My role as a Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer was designing, prototyping and managing the manufacturing operation for all OEM Opto-mechanical products for minimally invasive surgery and military night vision systems. During my tenure Company grew from a garage with 5 employees to 25 plus with sales from 0 to approximately 12 plus million. Customer base included: Excelis (ITT), Raytheon, Welch-Allyn, Stryker, Smith & Nephew, Zimmer, Cabot Medical, MP Video.
