Reviewing breeding schemes and developing improvement plans

Reviewing CGIAR breeding programs in multiple crops across the programs in Africa and central America on a part time basis

Started a maize diversity enhancement breeding project from scratch delivering inbreds that competed directly with local germplasm after the 1st introgression breeding cycle in product advancement meetings. This provided for increased rates of genetic gain across southern US breeding programs that were enhanced by strong working relationships with regional breeders and hand offs of unfinished breeding materials to build diversity within their breeding projects. Inbreds from the enhancement project are also being used in breeding programs of 6 other countries. Lead international breeding strategy development projects assuring wide spread use of the newest molecular breeding tools as well as conventional breeding techniques. Added to the knowledge base regarding tropical chromosome regions that add multi-trait value to the US pool. Ran a competitive conventional germplasm breeding project as a .5 inbred coding complement to the work above.

Inbreds from the enhancement project are also being used in breeding programs of 2 other countries. Developed a global germplasm testing and sharing program across 7 countries that produced new commercial hybrid combinations in each country as well as increasing longer term rates of genetic gain. Supported breeders in 6 countries as their key source of information about new breeding methods and molecular breeding tools being developed in the US. Ran a competitive conventional germplasm breeding project as a .5 inbred coding complement to the diversity work during the 2000 through 2005 period that produced 1 to 3 commercial hybrids each year.
