A focus on urban design and mixed-use projects from the beginning of his career has made Randy an expert in the field exemplified by award winning projects from Asia to the Americas. His completed projects include the transit-oriented mixed-use development Mockingbird Station in Dallas, Siam Paragon in Bangkok, and the 717 Olympic Tower, The Market at 9th and Flower, and LA Live, all in Los Angeles.In 2013, Randy and Jason Kersley formed [au]workshop architects+urbanists. The firm is currently engaged in a wide variety of project types in Colorado, New Mexico, California and Thailand.Born in Amman Jordan, Randy spent his early years in tow behind his military family including four years in Germany where at age seven, he decided become an architect. His family eventually returned to Colorado and he attended The University of Colorado in Boulder majoring in Environmental Design. After a year of travel and an internship in Southern California, he earned a Master of Architecture degree with Distinction from Arizona State University. While attending ASU, he realized an added passion for urban design during a summer semester in Italy.Upon graduation he accepted a position with RTKL, an internationally recognized architecture and planning firm where he spent the next 18 years. During that tenure, he worked on projects from Europe to the Middle-east, the Caribbean, North America and across Asia, always remaining a student of cities and place making. In 1997 he was awarded a Leonard Kagan Fellowship and studied the critical elements of great urban spaces. In 2005, he was promoted to Vice President, becoming one of the youngest partners in RTKL's history. In 2008 he and his wife elected to return to Colorado to raise their family and Randy joined RB+B Architects for five years where he engaged in mixed use architecture and urban design and furthered his interest in sustainable architecture, urbanism and work in the public realm including educational projects.
