Product Integrity EngineerMartin Marietta - Civil Space Systems Feb 1985 - May 1992Project Manager, NASA Force-Torque Transducer subsystem. A strain gage based electro-mechanical device for sensing force and torque in 6 dimensions. Solved the following technical problems: Redesign of electronics (added electronic versus mechanical force and torque decoupling and improved noise-filtering capability) and instrumentation sections (thermal ladders, gage screening and locations) to meet accuracy requirements. Successfully developed new slotted aluminized mylar foil over sensing gap without degradation to sensor accuracy and capable of passing electromagnetic interference tests. Discovered and solved voltage range interface problem. Coordinated and managed efforts between subcontractor, Martin Marietta program personnel and customer NASA/GSFC. Testing showed the design exceeded critical design requirements and presented test results to customer. Evaluated and successfully corrected subcontractor purchase contract without cost impacts to program. Came up with cost saving idea-implemented program wide for utilizing lower class parts on second NASA flight. Responsibilities included cost account management for the Force-Torque Transducer.
