About Randy Bauslaugh
My law practice is restricted to workplace pensions and benefits. I am a member of paid and volunteer boards of trustees and boards of directors. I have experience as a registered lobbyist, and as an advisor to governments and non-profit organizations, such as the United Nations. The focus of my law and consulting practice is to advise on pension and employee benefit plan governance, including fiduciary training, investment policy and governance policy development, plan design, plan mergers, restructurings and conversions, surplus repatriation, and deficit management. I have litigated and negotiated resolutions to pension and benefit issues, and acted as a mediator and arbitrator in pension related labour disputes. I have also reviewed, negotiated and helped implement investment de-risking strategies, and advised employers, pension funds and the United Nations on ESG and climate-related financial disclosures. My clients include public and private employers, appointed administrators of wound up plans, financial institutions, joint boards of trustees, and Canadian and foreign governments. I am privileged to be able to do what I enjoy, and I have had more than two decades of experience with large law firms leading groups that consists of some of the best pension, benefit and investment lawyers in Canada.My role as a trustee and board member provides practical insight that informs my legal practice. I have experience on paid Boards, including as an initial employer Trustee of one of Canada's largest employee life & health trusts. It is important to me to give back to my community, and over the years I have been able to contribute my leadership skills to organizations as diverse as the Canadian National Exhibition Association, the Scarborough Hospital Foundation, Theatre Direct Canada and the Canadian Cancer Society. I also serve my industry as a leader within national and international pension and benefits professional associations.
