The Assistant Chief of Operations ensures that Departments 454 uniformed employees and 112 volunteers, operating out of 32 strategically located Fire Stations provide Fire Suppression, Emergency Medical Care, Technical Rescue, Hazardous Materials Response, Swift Water Rescue, Fire Prevention and Community Risk Reduction duties for our community. Plans and coordinates all emergency medical services training programs at the basic and advanced levels for department personnel, and maintains all training records.Oversees training for all EMS providers and telecommunications personnel in the Town of Hilton Head Island EMS system; coordinates training between Medical Director, agency training officers, instructors and the community college.Prepares training instructional content and conducts training on various topics such as the use of medical equipment such as suction machines, oxygen delivery systems, backboards, fracture kits, obstetrical kits, intravenous kits, airway equipment, and monitor/defibrillator, procedures for verbal and written reports and records on the observation and care of patients, diagnosing patients injuries and illnesses, basic procedures for extraction, procedures for handling deceased victims, including documentation requirements.Discusses QA data with EMS agencies quarterly and works with them to correct issues that fall below acceptable QA standards.Conducts technical scope of practice evaluations for new employees and employees being re-credentialed and constructs and maintains training records.Works with the Medical Director to address training issues, protocol changes or scope of practice issues and makes revisions and changes in the same with his approval.Responds to major incidents as a paramedic during times of staffing shortages or during any major incident to evaluate field personnel and to assist in the emergency.Responds to inquiries from EMS agencies and department personnel, provides guidance in procedures, protocols or patient care, and discusses difficult cases in order to improve future service delivery.
