OwnerMagnolia House Of Lexington Feb 1998 - Oct 2009Participated in the negotiations to purchase the property, and managed the restoration and renovation of the entire facility, including the design of a 2500 square foot addition housing a modern kitchen and handicapped access facilities. The massive renovation included the planning and design of a multi-use kitchen facility, capable of accommodating several functions simultaneously. Was solely responsible for all research, planning and procurement of kitchen and restaurant equipment, and for the design of the building to accommodate the technology necessary to run multiple businesses from one location. All renovations were done in keeping with the facility’s placement in the National Register of Historic Places. Initial design considerations, as well as flexibility in hiring practices, led to awards from the SC Department of Vocational Rehabilitation for accommodation for, and employment of, the handicapped.Magnolia House of Lexington opened as a special events and catering facility in April of 1998, and added a lunch service to the public in May of 1998. To maximize use of the space, and to encourage access by more citizens to tour this historic house, a gift shop was also added. Responsible for all administration and management of this multi-faceted facility, and manage a staff of 3 to 65 full- and part-time employees (determined by size of event or dining offering of the facility). Responsibilities have included the selection and hiring of employees for various functions, including kitchen work, wait staff and customer service employees. Implemented, and constantly reviewed and revised, policies and procedures to ensure safety, cleanliness and a good experience for both employees and guests. Employees benefited from a structured review process, that enabled both employees and management to make important decisions regarding the roles and responsibilities of employees to ensure a better experience for our guests.
