About Randy Eager

Dedicating the 2nd half of my career to start-ups in a wide range of roles, mostly in the B2B space, I quickly realized that my passion is entrepreneurship and early-stage companies. My early years were spent at BASF, the worlds largest chemical company, building a new business unit for a new material. As a serial entrepreneur, I began this journey 25 years ago filling patents, licensing technology, and assisting spin-off companies at the Technology Transfer Office at Carnegie Mellon. Founding and growing organizations as CEO, generating millions in revenue, and successfully exiting would not have been possible without the help and mentorship I received as an entrepreneur. Knowing the value and need for coaching, I founded Aqualibrium, a consulting practice that helps early stage B to B companies. More recently, I Co-Founded my 7th company, SilisiumTech Inc., another Carnegie Mellon University spinoff where we are rebuilding the US solar industry by producing silicon wafers on a continual basis (replacing the current batch process) which reduces costs and greenhouse gas emissions by half.In addition to my work as a CEO, I am active in the Pittsburgh startup community by donating my time as an EIR at Carnegie Mellon, Directing Founder Institute Pittsburgh, and by siting on the TiE board of directors. When i'm not working I am with my family sailing, golfing, and cycling.

  • Silisiumtech
    Co-Founder, Chief Executive Officer
    Silisiumtech Jun 2022 - Present
Today, the global market for Silicon wafers for the solar industry (2022) is about $40B and projected to grow at better than 15% CAGR and accounts for about 50% of the complete solar module cost. Our team at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) developed a continuous process to make thin sheets of monocrystalline silicon at low cost – this new innovative process will reduce the cost of Silicon based solar electricity by a factor of two. Such sheets can be used for both solar and micro-electronics applications. The process distinguishes itself from current technology by replacing several costly and time-consuming batch process steps with a single continuous process. Our product can feed the cell and module manufacturing facilities directly leading to a highly efficient supply suitable for automation and implementation in the US. SilisiumTech has an exclusive license to commercialize the technology from CMU and patent applications have been filed to protect our differentiating technology. By the way Silisium is Norwegian for Silicon
  • Chement
    Co-Founder, Board Member, And Advisor
    Chement Aug 2020 - Present
Chement https://www.chement.co is a Carnegie Mellon University spin off that is developing the technology to produce cement without any carbon emissions. Right out of the gate, we received a grant of $1.25M from Breakthrough Energy https://www.breakthroughenergy.org (founded by Bill Gates) and recently closed on a $1M pre-seed round, led by Starlight Ventures https://starlight.vc.Within the entire supply chain of concrete and cement, the vast majority of emissions can be pinned to the pre-calciner and rotary kiln of a cement plant. We are working to replace these two pieces of equipment with an electrochemical reactor that takes the same raw materials and produces the same product without any carbon emissions. The manufacture of cement produces about 0.9 pounds of CO2 for every pound of cement. Since cement is only a fraction of the constituents in concrete, manufacturing a cubic yard of concrete (about 3900 lbs.) is responsible for emitting about 400 lbs. of CO2. In 2016, world cement production generated around 2.2 billion tons of CO2 - equivalent to 8% of the global total. More than half of that came from the calcination process.

  • Restec Solutions Llc
    Co-Founder And Advisor
Restec Solutions Llc Jan 2019 - Jun 2022
ResTec Solutions is a medical device company focused on eliminating infections that are contracted in healthcare systems. Every year, 4 million Americans will contract an infection while they are engaged with the U.S. healthcare system and 400,000 of them will die. Why is it so hard to kill germs? It’s hard because we rely on people to do it. People miss spots, fail to follow directions, or the devices have so many surfaces or buttons that it’s hopeless for someone to disinfect them all. So you end up with 52% of devices still contaminated after being disinfected with disinfecting wipes. 53% of surfaces still contaminated with bacteria after disinfection with UV light. And 27% of hospital rooms still contaminated with MRSA after 4 rounds of disinfection with bleach. This kind of performance costs healthcare somewhere in the neighborhood of $35B/yr.We are looking to change all of that. Our first product is intended for reusable medical items that you find everywhere in healthcare, but never being sterilized in central sterile. Items such as patient monitors, patient leads, infusion pumps, stethoscopes we can deliver surface sterilization in less than 5 minutes.
