Skidattl provides virtual signs at geo locations in the real world using augmented reality. It helps us all re-engage with the real world around us. Most of that time I focused on improving text input on Apple platforms, and more recently was focused on health-related projects - notably the Exposure Notifications project aimed at helping fight the COVID-19 virus. I was one of the founding managers on that project and served as Product Lead for Exposure Notifications up until the time I left Apple. Prior to Apple, I was a serial entrepreneur with a focus on specialized computer-human interface solutions (both for people with disabilities and the mainstream). Over the years, I've founded or co-founded 4 companies, and have successfully commercialized 12 different hardware and software products that including onscreen keyboards for Windows & Mac, Swype, a head-tracking camera, an aseptic keyboard called Cleankeys, and DRYFT (natural typing for touch screens). I'm an engineer and can interact comfortably with both hardware and software creation. I serve as Product Lead - my areas of responsibility on the project have spanned across several cross-functional components including architecture of the system, feature definition, engineering, partner support, PR, Marketing, and helping to drive adoption. The technology uses bluetooth signals to help inform you when you've recently been around someone who has tested positive, in a completely privacy-preserving way. This will help warn people to quarantine before they know they are sick, helping to protect others they may come in contact with.The technology is being used in over 70 States and Countries, and many peer-reviewed studies have shown Exposure Notifications is saving thousands of lives and averting millions of cases of Covid-19. It's been a once-in-a-lifetime experience to work on a project with such an enormous and direct impact on humanity. -

Ios Keyboard ManagerApple Sep 2014 - Jun 2018Cupertino, California, UsI managed onscreen keyboards and related text input intelligence for iPhones and iPads. The core team tripled in size during my tenure and we had zero attrition over that 4 year period (it was a great team to be on!) I was also directly responsible for text input and coordinated cooperation and execution between multiple teams at Apple consisting of over 100 engineers and specialists. The iOS onscreen keyboard is the most-used software on the most-used smartphone in the world. It was an incredible opportunity to be part of the team that introduced several significant new features every year, and consistently improved auto-correct performance year over year.

Founder / CtoDryft (Typesoft Technologies Inc.) Sep 2013 - Sep 2014On September 9th, 2013, we launched our brand new start-up Dryft at TechCrunch Disrupt 2013 where we were the runner-up winner. Dryft is a virtual keyboard that provides a natural typing experience on tablet computers. Like Swype provided fast text input on SmartPhones, Dryft is poised to do the same on tablet computers (with over 100 wpm typing speeds possible). Dryft is a spin-out of Cleankeys. I co-founded Dryft (TypeSoft Technologies Inc) with Rob Chaplinsky, Managing Partner at the venture capital firm Bridgescale Partners. With over 400 million tablets per year projected to be sold by 2017, we are excited about the boost in productivity that Dryft will offer those millions of users. I serve as the Chief Technology Officer, managing a team of Engineers developing on all major operating systems. I am hands-on in developing, testing and debugging the various algorithms used in Dryft that are breaking new ground in human-computer interface technology. I manage the product specifications and also manage the company's IP and Patent portfolio. My knowledge in developing Dryft solutions ranges from low-level signal analysis of sensor data right up to higher-level algorithms for language models, pattern recognition, and UI design.

It is targeted at health care settings where infection control is critical (but, of course, there are many other purposes for a cleanable keyboard). The keyboard is revolutionary in that is has no moving keys; instead it uses a patented combination of touch and tap sensors to allow the user to still touch-type as they would on a normal keyboard. But the smooth surface makes cleaning and disinfecting a snap. In late 2013, we exclusively licensed the Cleankeys keyboard technology to a leading keyboard manufacturer in Germany (GETT/Indukey). -

Co-Founder, President, Board MemberSwype Inc. Jan 2002 - Oct 2011Seattle, Wa, UsI co-founded Swype with Cliff Kushler in 2002 and helped develop the company on the side for many years. Swype allows the worlds fastest way to enter text on Smartphones (literally - it has set the world record three times). I was the original inventor of the concept, and then collaborated with Cliff to develop the algorithms, IP, and initial patent filings. We later hired Mike McSherry as CEO who presented at TechCrunch50 in 2009 and placed 3rd. The business took off from there, and was acquired by Nuance in 2011. There were 1.5 Billion installations of Swype worldwide by the time it was retired. -
