What drives me is solving problems, and I’m passionate about helping people solve their challenging problems. My focus is two areas: custom electronic design; and improving people’s thinking. Here’s how: 1. I design and build custom electronic devices to solve my clients' problems. Drawing on my engineering physics training I utilize the latest developments in sensors, microprocessors, and vision systems. Analog and digital; hardware, firmware, software, I put the pieces together to solve a need. Many of these products are test or measurement systems or fiber optic systems.2. I develop Decision Advancement courses and tools to help others with better decisions, faster solutions, and fewer mistakes. My interest in thinking was sparked when I saw brilliant people get stuck on simple problems. This led to my developing practical models and approaches describing how people think, make decisions, and solve problems.At first glance, these two areas may appear to be very different. In fact, techniques and approaches from technology (such as systems thinking, diagrams, and information organization) can be very useful in helping people improve their thinking. And technical/scientific professionals can benefit from understanding more about their own thinking strengths and weaknesses. My troubleshooting skills seminars for technical professionals often result in “aha!” moments for participants!I have designed and built test and measurement equipment for aerospace, test labs, consumer products, and more. Lightguide Systems has the capability for prototyping and production.These are exciting times in both these areas, in part because what Artificial Intelligence (an area I am now exploring) can learn from Human Intelligence, and vice versa.
