Deepwater subsea development services contractor - Porter Services (PS) was instrumental with Amoco Orient Petroleum Liuhua 11-1 Project in the South China Sea off the southern coast of mainland China. Multiples of modular sea floor pipeline and production equipment, mainline / flow-line piping, terminals, manifolds, running tools, control systems, intervention tooling, were fabed and installed using weld technology,and the newest fabrication equipment. PS staff worked closely with American Bureau of Shipping representatives to qualify the subsea system as one of many parts of the contract work scope. PS managed staff, documentation, procedures, assembly,welding / fabrication, QA-QC with a staff consisting of China tested welders, NDT techs, and experienced USA expat PS supervisors . The unique building-block concept used in the subsea system is a technology that was one of the major keys to success in the Liuhua project. Typically, deepwater systems have used huge structures that must be constructed on-shore, then hauled to the site. But this was not practical at Liuhua, so the engineers devised a system that could be assembled on-site and installed from a floating drilling rig where the supervisory staff, fabrication crew and technicians managed the assembly of components. By breaking the subsea system down into manageable components, and adding some innovative technology - including a field-fabricated jumper system that connected the wells - the staff created a system that could be assembled on the FPS, lowered to the seafloor and maintained without the need for divers.
