ACT, the nonprofit learning, measurement and navigation organization behind the ACT® test, acquired Knovation, Inc., a leading curator of K-12 open educational resources (OER), in December, 2018. Knovation, which was created 19 years ago, pioneered the use of well-curated, free content in K-12 instruction. It has received industry recognition for innovation, effectiveness and ease of use. ACT is a mission-driven, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people achieve education and workplace success. Headquartered in Iowa City, Iowa, ACT is trusted as a leader in college and career readiness, providing high-quality assessments grounded in nearly 60 years of research. ACT offers a uniquely integrated set of solutions designed to provide personalized insights that help individuals succeed from elementary school through career.

My second career began in 1999 when I exited the financial/insurance consulting market to co-found and lead an education technology solution organization, originally called Thinkronize, then later rebranded to netTrekker and Knovation. Together, we pioneered a new direction, a new narrative and new solutions for addressing digital content delivery and addressing the personalized needs of individual learners. Knovation was sold in December, 2018 to ACT, Inc., the well known college testing organization, and the assets continue to be well used in their ecosystem. In 2012, netTrekker relaunched as Knovation -- focused on making learning personal with solutions that create a fundamental shift from a one-way, one-size-fits-all type of education to a learner-centered approach that reduces barriers and customizes to the unique needs of every learner. We expanded our solution set to address the issues that educators and administrators face as they struggle to provide an effective education to an increasingly diverse student population in ways that are personal, stimulate creativity and curiosity, and produce self-motivated, lifelong learners. Leading throughout the life of the company, I pivoted Knovation in 2016 to move from selling to schools to providing technology solutions around OER curation, meta-tagging, alignment to other businesses who sell their solutions to schools. This renewed focus drastically improved our machine learning and AI tools to bring efficiency and value to our business partners, and expanded our reach into the market. Knovation served over 90 million students throughout the nearly 20 years of providing advanced solutions to the market. We created a team with an unparalleled spirit to drive innovation and "do something good for kids, everyday". And several team members went on to start their own businesses focused on improving education. For this I am humbled, proud and pleased.

Curious and interested in learning more about the growing online school movement, my business partner and I bought Sevenstar In March of 2009, and guided it's growth until December of 2016, when it was sold to a private investor. During that time, Sevenstar grew to be considered the global leader in this niche. Sevenstar Academy was started in 2006 by Dr. Mark Beadle as an Online Christian Academy that was created to deliver Christian education to schools and families, and continues to lead the market today.

AEP is the only non-profit organization that serves the needs of the entire K-12 educational resource community, encouraging and advocating for professional, quality content for education. By connecting teachers, schools, and businesses, we aim to inspire effective and innovative learning solutions for the 21st Century classroom.

P21 is a national organization that advocates for 21st century readiness for every student. As the United States continues to compete in a global economy that demands innovation, P21 and its members provide tools and resources to help the U.S. education system keep up by fusing the 3Rs and 4Cs (critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration, and creativity and innovation). While leading districts and schools are already doing this, P21 advocates for local, state and federal policies that support this approach for every school.
