I was a part of the firmware team that designed and developed IoT solutions for smart meters. We started from scratch, and I collaborated with the hardware team to work out the custom circuit board. I was involved at every level, from the BSP to selecting the RTOS and then building the solution on to of that.The smart meters were batter-powered and resource-constrained, so the solutions had to be power, memory, and storage efficient. I developed solutions that communicated over Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN) protocols (6LoWPAN, LoRa, Wi-SUN).Fun fact, these meters were installed in remote locations and required OTA updates, and it’s quite challenging to send a firmware update to a device that has a duty cycle of less than 1%.

I was a part of a team that designed, developed, and deployed high-performance electronic trading and clearing systems. I worked on the overall architecture of a product; workflow management, change management, effort estimation verifications, and release management. I was also responsible for coordinating cross-functional teams across multiple time-zones.Key design and development features included low latency, high volume, seamless failovers and minimum downtime. I successfully led my development team and multiple cross-functional teams across different time-zones towards a successful go-live.

I led a team that designed and developed embedded systems for large scale MFC printer controllers and printer controller simulators. This was a continuation of my work at Canon Japan, and again the solution was based on MIPS based RTOS and embedded Linux platforms. The main tools used were C and C++ with scripting.I was also liaising with the teams in Canon Japan, to manage the releases and the deliverables.

I worked at the Fuji-Susono Research Park, Japan, and was involved in the design, development, and management of embedded systems in large scale MFC printer controllers and printer controller simulators.My main focus was MIPS based RTOS and embedded Linux solutions. I mostly coded in C and C++ with a splattering of Perl and Shell scripting.The solutions I worked on often required to have low memory footprints, provide real-time performance, and had to be portable. I often collaborated with hardware teams who designed the custom circuit boards, and also with other printer engine development teams who used our simulators to tune and test the latest printer engines.Oh, and that place had a great view of Mount Fuji.
