I have been a member of the Imaging Research Operations team at the Dickerson Lab. My work involved pipeline building for imaging the preprocessing and analysis of structural, functional, and diffusion tensor imaging. The projects were related to enhancing our understanding of clinical profiles for patients with deficits in memory, visual perception and language. Recent projects have involved the creation of signatures for variants of primary progressive aphasia, posterior cortical atrophy and early-onset Alzheimer's Disease.

My work at the Saxe Lab involved the analysis of fMRI data to identify possible differences in the social processing of faces between neurotypical individuals and those with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. My main goals included (a) combining data from multiple acquisition sites while controlling for variability using machine learning techniques, (b) conducting the second-level analysis with both univariate and multivariate methods, and (c) aiding with motion-correction and data quality-assurance.

At the Active Perception Lab, I focused on how sensations become meaningful percepts, particularly by studying the role of eye movements. The central question of interest is the degree in which cognition affects perception, commonly referred to as top-down effects. My projects focus on how temporal modulations affect the perception of color, and the characteristics of attention within the fovea. For example, looking at the perceptual system as a computational system, when/how do higher level cognitive processes effect oculomotor behavior and when/how do the lower level eye movements more directly determine our percepts?

I committed to year of national service immediately after obtaining my Bachelor's degree, focusing on improving readiness and access to college in communities who lack resources. I worked on enhancing urban and regional partnerships for student civic learning and success. These projects involved designing curriculum and curating web resources that continued to grow after my one-year term of Americorps*VISTA service.

Undergraduate experience. I worked to further develop a newly constructed course, titled "Religion and Secularism". The course is part of the Core Curriculum of BU, which is a interdisciplinary program focused on Great Books in the Humanities, the Natural Sciences, and the Social Sciences. One of my main objectives was to draw connections between these large disciplines and foster new ideas in Freshman and Sophomore students attending the College of Arts and Sciences.

My tasks included: scheduling, producing summaries & evaluations, working with Microsoft (Excel, Powerpoint, & Word), web design, reception, working in the printer-room, and some technical work (installing new devices etc.).

Undergraduate Experience. Being the editor in chief for the Undergraduate Philosophy Journal was a position that honed by skills of marketing, recruiting, and program revamping. I helped recruit submitters as well as editors, working to bring together an active board after a few years of inactivity. I then monitored the board and served as the liaison for the editors and the submitters. Along with this, I managed logistical data, scheduled, coordinated, and managed weekly meetings.

Undergraduate experience. Under the supervision of Dr. Brenda Phillips, I did research on how students perceive and group animals as similar or dissimilar. I assessed two factors, (1) methods of categorization, and (2) opinions about conservation. Methods of categorization looked at whether subjects would determine animal relatedness based on morphology or the information provided by nested-circle diagrams; in addition subjects categorized animals as wild or domesticated. Opinions about conservation where determined by written responses reasoning about why/why not certain animals should be protected.I then looked at whether (1) methods of categorization, and (2) opinions about conservation would correspond to demographic variables. I found that scores on the religious scale positively correlate with scores of teleological reasoning about biology. In addition, subjects with higher self-reported religiosity were more willing to protect wild animals.

Undergraduate experience. I spent a year doing research on the meaning of reality and how the term "ontology"​ has transformed over the conceptual development of physics. I demonstrate how objectivity can be maintained although the classical, mereological understanding of fundamental metaphysics has been overridden. I also talk about the shift of ontology especially through the lens of Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity and through the beginning stages of Quantum Mechanics. Finally, I show my understanding of the debate between realism and instrumentalism--how these perspectives become very relevant but also somewhat trivial with these conceptual changes in ontology. The meaning and our understanding of mathematics, science, and physicality either must be re-conceptualized or rejected entirely as paradigm shifts occur.

Summer experience. As an intern, my main task was to help develop a new Mentor Program for the School of Business. This included organizing the program, managing the web content, contacting potential mentors, and working close with the Head of the department and the professors. Serving as a Project Team Member, I worked especially close with the Psychosocial and Emotional Support portion of the program. You can find more information about in the link below.
