As lead of Compute Ontario, I work with a network of partners to support Ontario's strategic priorities, with a particular focus on data-related initiatives and digital infrastructure for research.As a researcher, I study human perfornance in all its forms. My work focuses on how we acquire complex skills, and how learning and practice change our sensory and motor systems. Current areas of interest include optimizing education and development for health professionals, musicians and athletes, and the impact of sound on our perception of the world around us. I am also very interested in the assessment and evaluation of performance, particularly in high-stakes environments, and in competency-based models of education. The art and science of human performance fascinate me. I still maintain an active creative practice as a theatrical sound designer and composer (a different kind of human performance!), and enjoy exploring the relationship between my research, strategy and creative work. I work with a number of professional theatre companies and producers as a freelance designer, and with the Stratford Festival, North America's largest classical repertory theatre company, for whom I serve as Head of Sound Design. I also serve as Creative Director of McMaster University's LIVELab in my 'spare time'.
