Operate and maintain 2 MTPA capacity of Stamp Charge technology Coke Plant at Tata Steel

Tata Steel in its expansion project is building Battery 10-11 as a 1.6 MT Stamp Charging complex.This will make Tata Steel self sufficient in terms of Coke requirements for the Blast Furnaces. The job basically includes :- Prepare/ co-ordinate/approve technical solutions to Operational related problems,civil & structural engg. problems, evaluation of designs & drawings, planning & execution of civil & structural engg projects. - Study of drawings & basic designs and detailed engg. drawings,- Preparation of specifications, documents & estimates- Participation in technical discussions for solving problems related to commissioning of Battery.- Taking clearances for working from internal customer/departments- Ensuring quality and safety during execution of work- Planning and Implementing safety at work sites as per Company standards and monitoring progress of work

The purpose of the job was facilitating "Kar Vijay Har Shikhar" initiative, a business performance enhancement initiative in collaboration with McKinsey Consultants from the initial diagnostics to idea implementation in various units of the Company. The scope of application includes all operational units of the Company including mines and other out locations. I was responsible for designing the master plan for units and develop macro level planning for the units for implementation of all the ideas (activities) in line with the overall plan. The role includes setting up the unit, facilitating (through set of facilitators) the process of ideation, scrutiny etc., and converting the output to Do-able and quantifiable terms through rigorous analysis and application of TQM tools. Responsibilities also include creating the buy-in with all stakeholders of the process.Analysis of the business scenario with past performance data and future growth plan with the team was an important activity.Finally,syndication of baseline and aspirational targets with all the stakeholders viz. respective VPs & COMs, Dept Chiefs, BAG etc.

• Leading a team of 30 Skilled workmen and 300 semi skilled workmen in running the Latest Stamp Charge battery of India (Biggest Stamp Charge complex in the World, with a Capacity of 2 MT)• Looking after the Heating of the batteries which constitutes the core of batteries operations.• Converting detailed plan into actions (in terms of Coke Production), achieve targets (tons of Coke) & deliver quality product (Uniform Thermal Gradient & CSR of Coke). • Identifying the Core technology know how and key success factors of Coke making process, developing process metrics; establishing levels of process performance required for strategic advantage; identifying chronic process deficiencies and performing formal process flow analysis.• Utilization of Resources, identifying and implementing process improvements and monitoring the process and making real time adjustments. • Ensuring safety of Process / Product and Workers (Using Ms. DU PONT)• Implementing process management skills for delivery of quality product.• Responsible for all KPI monitoring activities related to Operations and Heating. • Collecting, Monitoring, Reporting Quality data.• Developing and Managing operation capabilities; identifying and resolving issues

• Leading a team of 60 highly skilled Supervisors & Technicians looking after the Mechanical maintenance of a World Class Hot Rolling Mill.• Planning & co-ordination of all aspects of maintenance related activities in the Mill.• The Job includes Supervising, motivating, providing training and developing the team so that they can contribute effectively towards production targets. • Maintaining and complying with the EHS standards and procedures in plant.• Promptly correcting any unsafe conditions or deviations on observation.• Ensuring that all operating procedures are followed and fully implemented in the plant. • Monitoring the plant performance in terms of efficiency, yield, cost, bottlenecks and contribute effectively towards continued improvements. • Coordinating with operations to carry out necessary maintenance activity. • Trouble shooting of process/production/product related problems. • Facilitating group activities such as QC’s, QIP’s, SGA’s etc.

This was basically training cum probationary period in which extensive knowledge of Mines division was imparted along with on the job projects.

The challenging job included dealing with Customers, taking leads & solving the problems related with the product. Basically a CRM job. Extensively trained by experts from US on Customer relations and management. Continuous interaction with the customers and the service team also included in the job profile.
