I became Indiana University’s Vice President and General Counsel on February 22, 2022. I serve as the University’s Chief Legal Officer leading and directing representation of IU in all legal matters. I serve as legal advisor to the President, The Board of Trustees, and senior University administrators, as well as primary resource person on legal matters of institutional procedure and governance.I direct the University’s in-house counsels and outside counsel retained to represent the University’s interests. I also oversee the offices of Institutional Equity, University Compliance, Internal Audit, and has joint oversight of the University Chief Privacy Officer in coordination with the Vice President for IT & CIO.

I defend management in federal and state courts, before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Indiana Civil Rights Commission, the Department of Labor, and the National Labor Relations Board. I also provide legal advice and counsel to management regarding laws and regulations that impact employment relationships, such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Equal Pay Act, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, state wage payment statutes, and other federal and state employment discrimination statutes.
