About the Playwright and Performer: Raoul D. Luna is an actor whose career in regional theatre has spanned three decades. Highlights include the World Premiere of Carlos Murillo’s Never Whistle While You’re Pissing (The Group Theatre, WA); Men on the Verge of a His-panic Breakdown by Guillermo Reyes (Round House, MD); Much Ado About Nothing (The Shakespeare Theater, DC & McCarter Theatre, NJ), and directing Regie Cabico’s Filipino Shuffle at Nuyorican Poet’s Café in 2003. Recently, Mr. Luna starred in Ken Ludwig’s The Fox on the Fairway at Somerset Valley Playhouse in NJ; he just wrapped filming the title role in the short film LEONARD PERES for Buds of May Productions. My Last, Best Spouse…or How Lance Loud Saved My Life is Mr. Luna’s first play. About the Play: In this comedic monologue play, we find Herman, as he makes preparations for his husband’s upcoming birthday. Recalling the dysfunctional men of his biological family, and the reasonable men of his new “logical family”, Herman draws hilarious distinctions - and tender similarities- between lobbying for a world of Marriage Equality for all, and his youth; playing caretaker to his Mexican/American widower father in a 1970's suburbia. Along the way are visions of TV’s first openly gay star, Lance Loud, saving our hero from a life of 24/7 sex, drugs, and R&B; a revenge-filled eulogy at a chaotic family funeral, complete with ill-timed lighting strikes, and- with his spouse- some well-intended re-enactments of porn icon Al Parker’s greatest moments. My Last, Best Spouse is forty funny minutes of raw, “autobiographical fiction” on stage, told with trailblazing insight direct from the trenches of today’s historic headlines.In May 2012, The DC Center for the LGBT Community presented a reading of My Last, Best Spouse as part of the First Annual DC Queer Theater Festival. In July 2012, Mr. Luna performed My Last, Best Spouse in New York City as part of Dixon Place’s HOT! Festival.
