My primary role with Energetics from September 2020 onwards was project management support for the Analysis Division, Vehicle Technologies Office (VTO), U.S. Department of Energy.

Center for Railway Research and Education,Eli Broad College of BusinessMichigan State University* Researched lifecycle cost estimates for diesel, diesel hybrid, hydrogen, and hydrogen hybrid vehicles and infrastructure, assessed implementation considerations and technology obsolescence, assessed footprints of and changes required for charging/refueling infrastructure, evaluated risk of various renewable fuels (and examining mitigation strategies), and assessed overall technological feasibility of fuel alternatives (hydrogen, in particular)* Assessed upstream fuel energy and “well-to-wheel” fuel emissions for alternatives through the use of a government-based model (“GREET” model) intended to assess such data, including, where necessary, having made changes and adjustments to the model* Assisted with report preparation and graphical data presentation for clients and, in one case, presented overall research findings to attendees of an MSU CRRE-sponsored seminar* Clients included agencies in the states of California and North Carolina; One agency (SBCTA) selected one of the hydrogen rail designs for a new route that is under development* Supervised an undergraduate student, who is also assisting with the work of the Center for Railway Research and Education

* Contributed significantly to “The Future of Rail,” an ad hoc IEA report, released in January, 2019, that examines global trends in rail. Tasks included being the primary writer on the topics of fuel alternatives in rail, and maglev rail technology, and compiling a glossary.* Performed an analysis, included in “The Future of Rail,” of likely present and future costs of rail fuel alternatives, including hydrogen fuel cell powertrains and various powertrains hybridized with batteries.* Reviewed the "Future of Rail" report, and provided feedback on sentence structure, grammar, and overall clarity.

Gathered data on a variety of utility-linked solar energy projects and programs in order to eventually gather all of this information into a Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA)-run database, to be made available to members and other subscribers.Assisted colleagues with edits of SEPA research pieces prior to release; in some cases, provided significant edits to solar energy guides/manuals put together by SEPA partner organizationsContributed towards a SEPA blog article on approaches to solar energy project financeResponded to research requests from SEPA members, covering a variety of topics related to solar energy; Responses included directing to key sources of information or, in some cases, providing answers based on SEPA-conducted researchProvided feedback to consultants regarding the implementation of the SEPA-run database during its development, in order to ensure a product that would be user friendly on both the customer end as well as the back (i.e. database management) end.

* Served as the primary author of a policy-oriented paper that examines high speed rail development in the U.S., looking at the historical context, as well as discussing the relevant environmental and economic implications, including an analysis of regional emissions impacts* Identified and comprehended reports and projects related to high speed rail, both in the U.S. and across the globe; Gathered and analyzed data, especially with regard to environmental and intermodal impacts, from these sources as well as through communications with staff in the relevant HSR planning departments/agencies in order to inform the policy paper on high speed rail described above* Conducted background research and literature reviews on transportation and transportation infrastructure trends (e.g. advanced ICE technologies, electric vehicles, biofuels, VMT trends, efficiency in freight and passenger rail), especially as relevant to greenhouse gas emissions reductions and the economic costs and benefits of various transportation policies* Gained an understanding of working with transportation and transportation-related models, including the Department of Energy’s NEMS (National Energy Modeling System) model and Duke U.’s SIMTRAVE model

 Researched hazardous materials transport risks and compiled policy documents on top hazmat risks for distribution to management at US Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) – Documents included projection of future costs through regression analysis Conducted research and numerical analysis support for revised regulatory evaluation regarding transport of lithium cells and batteries Provided research support for internal audit of PHMSA approvals and special permits issuance procedures

* Conducted qualitative and quantitative policy-related research pertaining to a broad range of transportation-related topics, and then developed or assisted in the development of organizational documents based on this research; Examples of assisting in the development of documents include having revised a major policy report and producing summaries of research; Examples of developing organizational documents include having produced a Powerpoint presentation to be presented at a national conference, developing a brief guide to Build America Bonds to be distributed to partner organizations, and developing an inventory of the research on “jobs created via transportation investments” and calculating respective job creation rates* Delivered an oral presentation (along with accompanying Powerpoint slides) demonstrating the findings of my research into ‘Fix-it-First,’ a transportation funding strategy used by states across the nation, to Transportation for America staff* Attended key transportation meetings and conferences, and produced written summaries for internal distribution* Reviewed and then contributed comments and other input to a variety of documents, both those produced by the organization as well as those produced by partner organizations; Received citation for peer review in a paper on freight transportation authored by staff of the Environmental Defense Fund

 Compiled broad range of qualitative and quantitative data on 8 New Jersey municipalities Researched solar energy and anti-idling topic areas  Drafted policy recommendations/best practices documents for presentation to municipalities based on qualitative and quantitative analysis of research findings — These documents, developed as part of a US DOE Block Grant project, included projected emissions reductions and, in the case of solar energy, comparison of traditional electricity costs versus projected energy costs with solar energy integrated as primary energy source

Data analysis for MCAT Shuttle Routes, assistance in market analysis of shuttle routes

* Compiled monthly On-Time Performance (OTP) report for presentation at Board Meetings and trained colleague * Developed FY07 annual Facts-at-a-Glance Sheet, summarizing statistical information on ridership, operations, and budgets * Created Community Services Fact Sheet, summarizing organization services, including grant-funded shuttles and employer sales* Prepared business plan examining installation of ticket vending machines on university campuses in New Jersey; Task included developing potential pricing options as well as research of available transit options near several universities* Calculated series of incentive figures, based on ridership and number of accidents, to assist AccessLink in a program assessment, performed cost-benefit analysis of driving versus public transit for student commuters, and analyzed sample of results for presentation of survey in quantitative and qualitative terms

As a constituent services representative, my work with constituents of the 12th District of New Jersey (in Central NJ) focused largely around issues pertaining to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense, and Department of Education.
