This is the largest publicly-funded lab program in British Columbia, with a +$250M annual operating budget and approx. 2,000 FTE.These labs process 8.3M specimens and generate 90M results annually. Along with the enterprise lab information systems (LIS) for the acute care, hospital-based labs, there are also specialized LISs to support the reference testing of the provincial lab services for: public health, population oncology, prenatal and newborn screening, solid organ transplants, etc. The reference labs receive approx. 10,000 specimens daily.Selected Highlights• Implemented the province's first two (and only) laboratory Positive Patient ID systems (closed loop collections)• Consolidated two enterprise Sunquest LISs from two health authorities to a single platform, including clinical standardization and process redesign• Second reference lab interface in BC, between and a BC health authority lab and a Yukon Territory hospital lab (BCCDC and Whitehorse General Hospital labs)• Lab results readily accessible to pathologists with the Lower Mainland Labs, from across 3 health authorities, improving patient care and utilization management
