Nursing Unit Secretary

Portland, Maine Metropolitan Area

• Responsibilities included coordinating with outside hospitals regarding critical patients being transferred to our unit. The secretary was responsible for getting all the patients records, making sure the room was set up and all the required equipment was ready for the patient's arrival. This helped me become familiar with medical procedures and equipment in a hospital setting as well as made the transition of care smoother for the patients and staff. • When a patient in the hospital had a cardiac event and had to be transferred to our unit, the same steps needed to be followed except in a much more expedited manner. Having this important task has taught me to be calm under stressful situations and to fall back on our protocols and my training to ensure that everything was being done in the correct manner. • Responsible for patient records and familiarizing myself with administrative paperwork such as consent forms. Becoming familiar with the process and paperwork for various situations when each one is needed. This significantly cut down on the time between when the doctor requested the form and when he was able to present it to the patient for critical tests and procedures, allowing the team run smoother and more efficiently. • Patients had to go outside the unit for tests and precures. Coordinated all trips off the unit with the destination as well as acquiring all the staff necessary to make the trip. This helped me become better at multitasking and prioritizing the most critical work first.

Emt

Portland, Maine Area

● Worked in emergency and non emergency situations to provide care for my patients. This helped me utilize my critical thinking and problem solving in a fast paced and clinical setting. In a volatile environment where things can change fast it was important to be alert to any signs of a change in the patient's condition and work with my partner to ensure the best outcome possible. ● Continuous communication with dispatch and hospitals in an effective and concise way as possible to relay critical information to the staff. This was crucial for patient care to ensure a smooth transition of care to the hospital or receiving facility. Created run reports on every patient I took care of and wrote a step by step narrative of my activity and any interventions I had performed. Being as detailed and as clear as possible to ensure the report could be understood by hospital staff and every action performed was backed by protocol and in the best interest of the patient. ● Responsible for ambulances that were stocked with medical supplies, necessary life saving drugs, medical equipment, and followed cleaning protocols every day before starting our shift. This stressed the importance of preparing for anything as well as taking cleaning and inventory very seriously.
