Raquel Castro is a researcher, film director and sound art curator. Founder and director of the Lisboa Soa sound art festival and the international symposium Invisible Places, she holds a PhD in Communication and Arts from FCSH-UNL with the thesis “Contributions to a Soundscape Analysis: Sound, Space and Acoustic Identity”. She is an integrated researcher at CICANT / Universidade Lusófona, where she participates in projects that focus on the aural experience in urban territories and where she teaches “Archaeology and Soundscapes” in Science and Sound Technologies degree.Her activities as a researcher and curator have resulted in different documentaries, such as Soundwalkers (2008) and SOA (2020), where interviews, art and soundscapes combine to broaden awareness of sound. SOA was screened by RTP2 and is currently part of Netflix's worldwide catalogue, after being selected by the Portuguese Film Academy. In 2021, Castro was chosen through an international open call to curate the Sound Art in Public Spaces exhibition cycle, presented in the following contexts: Wilde Westen (Belgium), November Music (Netherlands), Spor Festival (Denmark), Onassis Stegi (Greece) and Ultima Olso (Norway).
