Zambia

Liuwa is managed under a public-private-partnership management contract, a model where responsibility for the park is delegated to the private entity. As Park Manager I was responsible for the supervision and mentoring of 90 staff, and a yearly budget of 1.2 million USD. Oversight responsibilities incuded financial control, budgeting, reporting, human resources, law enforcement, investigation and prosecution operations, logistics and infrastructure development, community development, donor and government relations, and tourism development

Mozambique

Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique - Implemented a pilot project on the issue of community land delimitation in the Park’s buffer zone. The goal was to improve community land ownership in the buffer zone, minimize potential land claims inside the park and increase communities’ participation in Park’s management; Represented Park near local government authorities in all matters related to the District Environmental Zoning process.

Grenada And St. Vincent & The Grenadines

St. Croix, US Virgin Islands - Responsible for implementation of the Grenadines Parks in Peril Project in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada. This bi-national, $1 million, 5 year-project aims to propose a representative network of marine protected areas (MPAs), develop Conservation Action Plans for 2 MPAs and support both countries’ ability to fulfill commitments made under the CBD Global Program of Work on Protected Areas. Two significant accomplishment include 1) the set up of conservation coalitions through National implementation Support Partnerships in each country; 2) TNC’s inclusion as part of Grenada’s official delegation to COP8 and Grenada’s Declaration of Commitment and announcement at COP8 - Grenada’s Cabinet commits to protect 25% of the country’s terrestrial and marine natural resources by 2020.

Us Virgin Islands

St. Croix, US Virgin islands - Served on a multidisciplinary team tasked with developing the Greater Caribbean Ecoregional Plan. Was focal point for Puerto Rico, which lead to the establishment of partnerships between TNC and government agencies and NGOs in the Commonwealth.

Us Virgin Islands

St. Croix, US Virgin Islands - Completed a Rapid Ecotourism Assessement of the U.S. Virgin Islands and implemented a sea turtle hatchling tour. This involved design of brochures, informational panels and signs for TNC’s Jack and Isaac Bays Preserve. Also acted as Field Assistance in the monitoring of sea turtle nesting beaches. This involved night patrols and gathering data such as tags for individual identification, species size, and nest location.

Portugal

Lisbon, Portugal - Ecotourism Development in Castro Verde’s Region - Designed and built bird observatory, and promoted guided tours in five Biological Reserves in southern Portugal. Project was funded by the European Union LEADER Programme.

United Kingdom

London, UK - Developed a franchise of European contacts in order to market CI’s ecotourism projects in Europe. The analysis involved accessing tour operators’ target market, countries of operation, product analysis and tour operators environmental commitment. It subsequently involved ranking them in terms of CI’s environmental criteria.

Guinea-Bissau

Ecotourism Development Strategy for the National Park of Cacheu’s River Mangroves (PNTC) in Guinea Bissau, West Africa. - Elaborated tourism zoning plan and proposed a development strategy for the Park. This involved characterizing tourism in the park’s region, evaluate scenarios for its development, and define an action plan for two years.
