Raquel is an architect, urban designer and researcher educated in Portugal, the UK and the Netherlands that specialises in building environmental design and sustainability. She has more than 12 years of professional experience in the field of building environmental design and environmental performance analysis. At Foster + Partners, Raquel was involved in the implementation of the environmental performance simulation work and capability of the company, as well as, in the development of the sustainability concept and in the environmental design and analysis of a wide range of international projects. As an independent consultant, she participated in several design competitions in partnership with a range of architectural firms, winning several awards and mentions. At Broadway Malyan, she worked in green building certification and in developing tools and workflows for the integration of environmental and sustainability principles in the design process. Raquel holds a PhD on the subject of daylighting from the TU Delft and she currently works as a building sustainability consultant at AFRY.Sitting between industry and academia, Raquel is both at ease with developing architectural and urban design work that is informed by social and environmental sustainability aspects as well as with carrying out evaluation, analysis and research activities on those aspects.Areas of work: architectural design, urban design, building environmental performance simulation and analysis (solar, daylight, thermal, CFD), visual and thermal comfort, urban microclimate analysis, life-cycle assessment (LCA), BREEAM, LEED, Estidama, WELL, quantitative and qualitative data analysis and research, and daylighting design, research, analysis and measurement.
