Major Responsibilities • Provide an overview of geospatial and remote sensing technologies related to earth observation in the context of disaster risk management in support to the Resilient Agriculture Disaster and Recovery (RADAR) geo-platform• In close collaboration with in-country FAO representation, identify gaps and needs which require geospatial and remote sensing support in the field of DRM and prepare technical recommendations for the operationalization of national platforms• Develop standard operation procedures in support to the preparation of geospatial DRM related information for drought, flood, and fire monitoring• Provide technical input to development of training materials (e.g. SEPAL modules) as needed• Support integrated field and remote sensing applications using innovative approaches (e.g. OSM, LCML, AI, machine learning);• Lead on the identification of data sources and acquisition mechanisms, image pre-processing of satellite data, data analysis, data validation and accuracy assessments, as well as development of land use maps for priority countries in line with the work priorities validated by the Geospatial and Resilience Advisory Team• Prepare quality control procedures of the remote sensing products• Document (data and metadata) the products prepared depending on the needs and support provided• Provide follow-up support to country and regional remote sensing and GIS work, as input for national and international reporting platforms and web geoportals• Identify or develop operational approaches for monitoring indicators of restoration for different ecosystems using SEPAL• Develop documentation on ecosystem restoration monitoring operating procedures using SEPAL• Support the development of geospatial data for case studies related to the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration• Undertake missions in support to national programs and prepare back to office reports.

Major responsibilities- Overview the country and regional remote sensing and GIS work in Sudan, as input for international reporting and the national web geoportals;- Provide technical training as needed to the national team in charge of mapping on remote-sensing techniques/analysis and open-source software;- Coordinate the construction of the Forest Reference Emission Level for the component related to the activity data of Sudan;- Prepare a methodology towards the development of an updated land and forest cover map.- Perform preparation of quality control procedures for data quality control of the remote sensing products.

Major responsibilities- Review availability of existing national geospatial datasets (e.g. agro-ecological zones, LULC, population density, roads, slope, soil) for the target countries.- Carry out a tree cover change analysis within selected AOIs in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan and Uganda.- Combine tree cover change analysis, population trend and other relevant datasets in order to prioritize areas with major tree cover loss and associated challenges.- Process existing national LULC maps and field data to estimate land cover changes in the AOI.

Major responsibilities- Review availability of existing geospatial datasets (i.e. agro-ecological zones, LULC, population density, roads, slope, soil) and combine with tree cover change assessment overall broad area of interest (AOI) to support the identification of two representative refugee settlements in Western and Southwestern Uganda.- Carry out land suitability maps for potential afforestation, land restoration and forest protection interventions in the six settlements in the areas of interest (AOI) taking into account socio-economic and biophysical parameters as appropriate.- Process existing national LULC maps and field data to map biomass distribution and to estimate land cover changes in the AOI.- Produce land cover changes map and biomass map of the AOI using existing national datasets from the National Forest Monitoring Systems and assessments.- Set-up an accuracy assessment to validate the results in the AOI from the national datasets using high resolution satellite imagery, including imagery from Sentinel-2.

Major responsibilities- Provide technical assistance and support to the Forest Department in Bangladesh in the areas of GIS, mapping and Remote Sensing analysis- Coordinate the implementation of GIS/RS related training- Coordinate and work with relevant national (e.g., BFD, BARI, BSGI, BUET, CEGIS, SoB, SPARRSO, SRDI, etc.) and international organizations (e.g., CNR, GIZ, NASA, UMD, etc.) for different activities including developing Bangladesh Forest Information System (BFIS), land cover map development, historical assessments of land cover change, etc.- Provide technical support for the implementation of Bangladesh Forest Inventory (BFI), socioeconomic and GHG component of the National Forest Inventory (NFI)- Coordinate preparation of land cover maps at national level- Support the preparation of the national classification system, field data collection and selection of satellite images for forest and land cover monitoring- Support the development of a mobile application for the field data collection for the classification system and the accuracy assessment- Provide support for the analysis of the integration of the socio-economic and biophysical component of the Bangladesh Forest Inventory (BFI)- Provide support in preparing research/project proposal- Provide key institutional memory and perspectives; assisting and orienting new staff in their technical duties.
