I am a botanist by education with a research focus on biodiversity studies and inclination towards phylogenetic analysis. My research project in CSIR-NCL involved genetic diversity and phylogeographic studies of Symplocos laurina and Symplocos racemosa (medicinally valued tree species) using various molecular markers such as nuclear, chloroplast and ISSR. My research towards Ph.D. is on DNA barcoding of forest tree species. In this tenure, I learnt various techniques and programs such as, DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis and PAGE, PCR technology, cloning of gene of interest using various vector systems, DNA sequencing with automated sequencer (MegaBACE 1000), sequence analysis using tools like MEGA, CLUSTAL X, Dnasp and BIOEDIT, Bioinformatics tools for search, blast and alignment of sequences and analysis, Phylogenetic and biostatistical analysis of data using various software packages such as MVSP, HAPLODIV, HAPLONST, Arlequin, GenAlEx, PAUP AliView, seaview, MrBays, POPGENE, TaxonDNA, etc. The research work involved the field trips in forest areas across all over India. This taught me techniques associated with tissue collection and built my ability to work in a group and to interact with more number of people right from science background to locals.With this research background, I look forward for the right opportunity
