I am a political scientist and social policy specialist with an interest in social security policies across high-middle-low-income countries. My recent research include longitudinal qualitative research with young unemployed people in Denmark in order to understand how welfare conditionalities affect their wellbeing and motivation. I have worked for more than ten years in international development, including in particular on social protection/social security in low- and middle-income countries. I am an Associate at Development Pathways Ltd. and have previously carried out assignments for WFP, UNICEF and DFID. I am also a co-founder and Programme Director at Impact Designs, an NGO focusing on developing new sources of income for refugees in low-income countries (https://www.impactdesigns.dk/).Examples of research assignments:• Situational analysis and analysis of access to social protection and other basic services for destitute people and people with disabilities in Addis Ababa for UNICEF.• Research project on refugee vulnerability for WFP in Uganda, including qualitative field research in six refugee settlements and a quantitative household survey of 5,000 households in 18 settlements, across ten districts.• DFID-funded research project on social protection for people with disabilities: contributed to a comprehensive literature review and carried out qualitative research on social protection for people with disabilities in Brazil, Mauritius and India jointly with a disability specialist.• DFID-funded research project on social accountability in social protection: wrote the initial project proposal, assembled the research team, led a comprehensive literature review, including development of a conceptual framework, and carried out qualitative field research in Nepal on the impact on service delivery and state-society relations of social accountability initiatives in Nepal’s national social protection programmes. Wrote a case study report based on the field research in Nepal and a desk study on social audits in NREGA, contributed to the final research report and a technical guidance note. Presented findings for the World Bank and DFID.

Organised the logistics for the qualitative research, including liaising with the Government of Uganda to ensure access to the refugee settlements, and carrying out scoping visits to the settlements. Developed research methodology and research tools for the qualitative research together with an external international consultant, and participated in qualitative field research. Wrote a research report for two settlements, edited the final qualitative research report and contributed to the final research report. Also supported project management and proposal development for other Development Pathways projects in Uganda. -
