Statoil Refining Denmark is one of Statoils two oil refineries. It refines crude oil and supplies the Baltic markets with low sulphur gasoline and diesel products. At Statoil I deal with everyday chemistry, process and safety related challenges running a refinery. As project leader it has been my responsibility to:- lead projects from idea-phase through studies to execution.- run a diverse group of engineers through small projects in a highly regulated environment where the process of the refinery is changed.- control project status, economy and deliveries and work with asset owners on timely and controlled delivery.As process designer it has been my responsibility to:- Make business cases for new ideas and propose recommendations for the senior leadership of how to evolve the plant.- Collect and analyse data to propose and adapt new ways to run the plant.- Make process design (write P&IDs, specifications of equipment, functionality and user cases and risk analysis) on plant modifications.- Supply knowledge of technical legislation affecting the proces design and operations in new developments.- Use risk analysis (hazop, alarp, barrierdiagramanalysis) and root-cause analysis evaluating the safety of the plant.Achievements: I’ve proposed projects for more than a couple of hundred millions and followed the carrying out of these projects. I’ve proposed and carried out projects improving the revenue stream by millions.

The Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO) is a research centre at Aarhus University. Focus is on bringing together excellent scientists from various disciplines (physics, engineering, chemistry, biology, and medicine) to collaborate on research and development in the interface between these fields. I worked in a joint research project (with external partners), with the aim of understanding the heat transfer of surfaces under boiling conditions by controlling surface chemistry and geometry, and ultimately improving their ability to transfer heat energy. Using the cleanroom and standard chemistry laboratories I developed patterned surfaces by nano- and micro-lithography, characterised these (by SEM, AFM, XPS, and Water Contact Angle) and set up experiments to test their ability to transfer heat. I liked working in the laboratory so sometimes I got the opportunity to take undergraduates with me in the lab and teach them in nano fabrication.During my experiments we found that our heat transfer characterisation equipment wasn’t good enough to test our surfaces to the limit. I came up with the idea for a equipment to solve this problem and devised and developed a unique setup that allowed us to investigate the full potential of the coatings to extreme heat fluxes (~350W/cm2). Our hypothesis payed off, and we have now developed some of the worlds most efficient surfaces for heat transfer in water and carbon dioxide.

As one of the first danish website newz.dk embraced and acknowledged the involvement of the readers, either writing pieces of news themselves or sharing their special knowledge or experiences with other users allowing the readers to learn more about the topics of their interest.During the years I've spent at newz.dk I wrote and edited thousands of pieces of news and together we grew the site to the 52. largest website in the danish domain (.dk) receiving 1.3 million pageviews/month. It was a fun time working for newz.dk, and I learned a lot about writing stories and utilizing crowd sourcing as a business model. I wrote about the science and technology that fascinated me, and hopefully inspired other kids to choose the path of science and technology. I departed newz as my full attention was needed to finish my education.
