About Md Rassel Raihan

I am an engineer with 8 years of experience with the damage analysis of Composite Materials and Adhesive joints that are used in the Aerospace, Automotive and Defense industries. I am a Research Engineer currently working with a team of multidisciplinary researchers and faculties on the performance prediction and the materials state analysis of the heterogeneous materials (e.g., structural Composite Materials, Adhesive Joints, Solid Oxide Fuel Cell, ceramic and polymer membrane etc.) based on the Non-Destructive Evaluation methods. I am involved in grant proposal preparation, presenting research findings and organizing sessions in relevant conferences. I am supervising and mentoring more than 10 junior staff, interns and, PhD and MS students. As a research engineer and graduate student, I used many state of art equipment for materials testing and characterization. For example, Xradia (now known as Zeiss) MicroXCT-400 for X-ray computed tomography as Non-Destructive Evaluation tool to investigate micro structure of the heterogeneous materials. I also used high rate MTS machines, Novocontrol Broadband Dielectric Spectrometer, Wabash Compression molding, SEM etc. I have experience in Finite element analysis using ANSYS, ABAQUS and COMSOL multiphysics. Colleagues know me as a highly collaborative team player who never try to impose any ideas on others. I spend a lot of time understanding other team members suggestions/opinions before suggesting ideas. I can (and often do) work well alone, but I’m at my best collaborating with others. I am US Permanent Resident (Green Card holder). I have PhD and MEngr in Mechanical Engineering from University of South Carolina and a BS from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).I will be glad to share my experience, please feel free to contact me.

HeteroFoam Center, University Of South Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina ( Fall 2009- present) Used Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) technique as predictive methods for large-scale progressive damage in structural composites for aircraft applications. Contributed on the performance analysis and mitigation of degradation mechanisms of fuel flexible advanced power for portable applications and developed a method, “Dielectric characterization method for mechanistic 'health monitoring'”, and also used Microfocused X-Ray Computed Tomography (MicroXCT) to analysis the damage of the material system.  Utilized Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy (BbDS) for science based nano-structure design and synthesis of heterogeneous functional materials for energy systems. Developed and designed a measurement technique to evaluate the dielectric properties of the material system which can be used to design the morphology of the heterogeneous material to get better performance and also introduced a new method, Generalized Compliance, to examine the progressive damage of the composite materials.
