Rasu Jilani is an independent curator, cultural producer and social sculptor, which allows him the privilege to investigate the intersections between art, culture and civic engagement as a method of raising critical consciousness. The main objective of his work is to catalyze interaction between artists, cultural institutions, the local community and the wider public, in order to promote cultural awareness and artistic literacy to diverse communities through exhibitions, public programs, community dialogues and festivals.In 2016, Jilani joined the NEW INC staff as Director of Recruiting and Community Engagement for the art-tech-entrepreneurship incubator at New Museum. From 2013 through 2016, Jilani worked at MAPP International Productions as the Director of Community Programs. Prior to joining MAPP, he served two years as the Senior Fellow of Arts, Culture and Sustainability at the Pratt Center for Community Development of Pratt Institute, where he managed art and cultural programs designed to connect five Brooklyn neighborhoods with Pratt Center’s community and environmental sustainability projects. Mr. Jilani is also co-founder of the art and socially responsible brand, Coup d’etat Arts, a platform for creative expression that transcends cultural boundaries. In 2008, he introduced the Coup d’etat Art Collective, a Brooklyn-based collaboration of highly respected artists to produce various art-related events throughout New York City, including the Afropunk Festival, The BEAT Festival, the Coup d’etat Art series and exhibitions, university art Installations and workshops, and community murals.
