For the IBM PC Company. I was responsible for the hiring of my staff, and led a team of salesmen and system engineers in selling and supporting IBM PCs to the top twenty IBM corporate customers. In 1996, I was asked to create a sales team for IBM's consumer products, and was appointed as National Retail Sales Manager for the IBM PC Company. At the end of 1996, IBM decided to cut back on staff, and all contractors were given notice. I approached Epsidon (one of IBM's PC distributors) and they appointed me as an Accounts Executive

Initially as a Systems Engineer, advancing to the rank of Advisory Systems Engineer. I specialised in the installation of IBM system software, covering such products as OS/MVS and all its utilities, CICS and IMS, STAIRS and ATMS, as well as the 3600 and 4700 banking applications. Customers supported included the Government accounts of Social Welfare and Pensions, National Education, Receiver of Revenue, and Dept of Defense, and the Finance customers in Johannesburg of Trust Bank, UBS, Volkskas, The Allied Group, FNB, and the Stock Exchange; In 1979 I was promoted to a Systems Engineering Manager, and led a team of specialist System Engineers in supporting all IBM's banking customers, focusing on networking projects.During this period I was also a member of IBM's Campus Team. We toured the universities from August to October, interviewing those students about to graduate. Successful candidates were invited to join the IBM Graduate School for an evaluation period before being offered permanent positions.During my career, I have completed many short courses and have become proficient in programming in COBOL, PL/1, FORTRAN, APL, BASIC, C etc (one language is much like another). Also, many management courses, people skills and sales courses attended and completed and subsequently put into successful practice.In 1982, I was appointed as an Account Manager, and held several senior management positions in the banking, transport and personal computer divisions. I led teams of salesmen and system engineers in selling, installing and supporting IBM products to such major customers as The Allied Group, Transnet and First National Bank. In 1993 I accepted an early retirement offer from IBM, but after a year of driving my wife and family mad, decided to start work again.
