As the Secretary General I worked as the executive manager of the Student union, being the head of our staff of about twelve permanent employees and many more who work in different kinds of projects. In this position I was responsible for the staff, financial and administrative matters and for running the organization as a whole.The Student Unions are on a global scale pretty unusual places to work at: we have a legal position in the university, and we connect our 15 000 members together by promoting their interest. The staff mainly consists of people with bachelor's or master's degrees, but there are always officials, who are very much students themselves, and our work place brings together strong professionals and young people still to find their passion. We work with questions concerning academic affairs in the university and Finland, social affairs and legal matters of the students and even development cooperation.In practice, my work is mainly handling human resources and supporting everyone so that they can perform at their best in their respective fields of expertise. This means that the most vital skills are people skills, strategic planning and decision-making, and I should never forget the need to be able to work under pressure and with different and sometimes even conflicting expectations. The best thing with this job is that there are virtually no two days alike, and everyday I learn a lot. This keeps things interesting and motivates me even through harder tasks!

We also had the responsibility for the near-300-million budget. During our term we also recruited a new rector for the university.
