Visit Arctic Europe www.visitarcticeurope.com Finnish and Swedish Lapland and North Norway combine their marketing expertise in the Visit Arctic Europe (VAE) project. The cross-border tourism marketing project VAE has been awarded EU funding through the Interreg Nord 2014–2020 programme. The funding totalling 6.4 mEUR VAE is an enterprise-driven project that utilises company networking and cross-border development of tourism entireties to make North Scandinavia a homogenous tourism destination. The improvement of accessibility of the north and the development of the region’s internal traffic take a central role in the project. Every area involved has attractions that appeal to tourists. By combining forces over national borders we are taking visibility to a new level. Traditionally, these northernmost regions in all three nations have operated independently in attracting tourists to their region. This restricts the opportunities for the Arctic region for being competitive on the global markets. By working together we can achieve a larger share of the market compared to competing with one another on a regional basis.The head partner of the Visit Arctic Europe project is the Finnish Lapland Tourist Board.Rauno Posio has been chosen to be the Project director, who will be leaving his current post as Marketing Director of Lapland Safaris Group Oy.“Here in the northern regions, the tourist industry comprises numerous small and medium-sized enterprises that require cooperation in order to attain visibility in international competition within the tourism markets. Arktinen talousneuvosto edistämään kestävää kehitystä arktisilla alueillaKahdeksan arktisen maan ja kuuden alkuperäiskansan välinen arktinen talousneuvosto (Arctic Economic Council) Arktisen talousneuvoston tehtävänä on edistää kestävää taloudellista kasvua ja ympäristönsuojelua sekä vahvistaa sosiaalista kestävyyttä arktisilla alueilla. Alkuperäiskansojen ja pk-yritysten taloudellisten toimintaedellytysten parantaminen, kaupan esteiden vähentäminen, kestävän taloudellisen toiminnan tukeminen ja muiden asioiden esiin nostaminen, joita talousneuvosto itse pitää ajankohtaisina, ovat keskeisellä sijalla sen tulevassa työssä.Arktinen talousneuvosto perustetaan Arktisen neuvoston myötävaikutuksella. Suomen elinkeinoelämän edustajiksi arktiseen talousneuvostoon on nimetty toimitusjohtaja Tero Vauraste, Arctia Shipping, markkinointijohtaja Rauno Posio, Lapland Safaris sekä toimitusjohtaja Ingmar E. Haga, Agnico Eagle. Suomen vahvuus on arktiseen liiketoimintaan ja ympäristönsuojeluun liittyvä osaaminen sekä Suomen tuleva puheenjohtajuus Arktisessa neuvostossa 2017–2019.Arktinen neuvosto on tärkein foorumi arktisten kysymysten käsittelylle. Neuvoston varsinaisia jäseniä ovat Pohjoismaat, Kanada, Venäjä ja Yhdysvallat sekä pysyviä osallistujia alueen kuusi alkuperäiskansaa. Neuvoston tarkkailijoita ovat 12 valtiota Euroopasta ja Aasiasta sekä Euroopan Unioni. Arktisen neuvoston työssä yhdistyvät arktinen ympäristönseuranta, saastumisriskien tunnistaminen, ympäristöonnettomuuksien ennakointi, kestävä kehitys, luonnon monimuotoisuuden säilyttäminen ja arktisten merialueiden erityiskysymykset.
